2016 RESNET – CRESNET Cross Border Builder Challenge Awards Announced

The award winners of the 2016 RESNET Cross Border Home Builder Challenge, which helps promote the utilization of the HERS® Index Score, were announced by Steve Baden, Executive Director of RESNET, and John Godden, President of the Canadian counterpart CRESNET, at the 2016 RESNET Building Performance Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Cross Border Challenge is a competition among U.S. and Canadian builders on achieving the lowest HERS® Index Scores. There are eight categories of awards.

The 2016 RESNET President’s Award was issued to KB Home. RESNET Executive Director Steve Baden along with the co-sponsors of the award, Rod Buchalter of RenewABILITY Energy Inc. and Paul Duffy of Icynene presented the award to Jacob Atalla of KB Home.

The 2016 CRESNET President’s Award was awarded to Rosehaven Homes.  CRESNET Board President, John Godden, along with the co-sponsors of the award, Rod Buchalter of RenewABILITY Energy Inc. and Paul Duffy of Icynene presented the award to Rosehaven Homes.

The winners of the CRESNET and RESNET President’s Awards each won an insulation package from Icynene. Products included Icynene Classic Max and Classic Plus Low Density spray foams and Icynene ProSeal and ProSeal Eco, Medium Density spray foams.

As part of the competition, American and Canadian builders were recognized for the lowest HERS® Index Scores in their category. The 2016 award winners are:

• Lowest HERS® score American Production Builder – Brookfield Residential, Colorado with a HERS® Index of 32

• Lowest HERS® score American Custom Builder – Greenhill Contracting, New York with a HERS® Index of 25

• Lowest HERS® score Canadian Production Builder – LIV Communities, Ontario with a HERS® Index of 26

• Lowest HERS® score Canadian Custom Builder – Seaman & Sons, Ontario with a HERS® Index of 26

• American Net Zero Award winner – Greenhill Contracting, New York with a HERS® Index of -5

• Canadian Net Zero Award winner – Denim Homes, Nova Scotia with a HERS® Index of -3

Each winner in all lowest HERS® Index scores categories won a free Power-Pipe® Drain Water Heat Recovery System.

“With well over 1.7 million homes having been HERS® rated in the U.S. and issued a HERS® Index Score, the Home HERS® Index is the industry standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is now being measured in the U.S. and Canada. It is also the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home’s energy performance,” noted Steve Baden of RESNET.

“The RESNET Cross Border Challenge is a friendly competition between American and Canadian Home Builders to determine just how energy efficient builders can build,” noted John Godden of  CRESNET.
