Coalition of Builder and Real Estate Associations Supports Extension of 45L Federal Tax Credit for Energy Efficient Homes

Mar 19, 2019

The Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and the committee’s top Democrat, Ron Wyden (D-OR), introduced legislation that would extend the 45L federal tax credit for energy efficient homes.  The legislation, “Tax Extender and Disaster Relief Act of 2019”, would extend the credit forward to December 31, 2019 and retroactively for 2018.

A coalition of builder and real estate associations has sent a letter of support for the legislation to the chairman and ranking member of the Senate tax writing committee.

In the letter the association coalition thanked the Senators for sponsoring the legislation stating, “The provision has provided a powerful incentive for contractors to install higher performance building systems and upgraded appliances than they otherwise could justify within the pro forma for developing the property.”  The letter can be downloaded at Real Estate Coalition Letter on 45L Extension Legislation

The signers of the letter are:

  • Leading Builders of America
  • National Association of Home Builders
  • National Association of REALTORS®
