The growing interest in the RESNET Conference is reflected in the number, diversity and quality of the sessions that were nominated in the past. To be a success in 2014, RESNET needs your ideas. The nominations offered by the RESNET network are the backbone of RESNET’s conference agenda.

The ecoHOME program is designed for builders with two distinct advantages. Every
ecoHOME is rated using the nationally-recognized HERS Index, and distinguished for going beyond minimum design standards in order to meet a higher level of energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and water efficiency.

Since its inception in North Carolina in July of 2012, 350 homes by 25 builders have been certified to the ecoHOME Certification Program. One of the architects of the ecoHOME Certification Program will be co-presenting with Bill Klotz of EverBlue at a session at the 2013 RESNET Conference entitled “The Builder Said ‘No’ to 3.0!” on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 10:15 a.m.

RESNET has adopted the following procedures for documenting attendance of conference sessions. The conference program will contain a space by each session for documenting attendance at pre-conference and conference sessions. At the end of the session, raters wanting credit for the session must have the moderator or a session presenter stamp the session on the program.

Raters must submit the conference program to their rating provider in order to receive the conference credits. RESNET will not keep documentation of rater attendance at conference sessions.

The conference general session and each breakout session will offer 1.5 credit hours. Attendance of the conference from February 27-29, including all breakout sessions and the general session, will total 18 total credit hours. Pre-conference sessions also provide professional development credit hours, but courses vary in length/credit.

Raters must submit the conference program to their rating provider in order to receive the conference credits. RESNET will not keep documentation of rater attendance at conference sessions.

Each breakout session will be 1.5 credit hours and the general session will be 3 credit hours. Attendance of the conference from February 28-March 2, including all breakout sessions and the general session, will 18 total credit hours. Pre-conference sessions also provide professional development credit hours, but courses vary in length/credit.

The RESNET By-Laws requires that a Nominations Committee recommend a slate of candidates for the membership’s consideration.  This must be submitted to the members at least 45 days before the deadline for voting.  RESNET members have the opportunity to independently nominate other candidates for the seats within 30 days of the election.  Shortly after the deadline for independent nominations, RESNET staff will prepare an electronic ballot and submit it to the membership.

If you are considering whether to submit a nomination, I urge you to examine the time commitments that you will be making by serving on the RESNET Board.  The time commitment of a board member will go up in 2011 just have they done in 2010.  With the greater emphasis being placed with building energy performance, there will be growing responsibilities placed on RESNET and its board.  There will be two face-to-face meeting of the board in 2011.  Board members need to cover their own travel expenses.  You should expect a quarterly board teleconference and an average of five electronic ballots a month.

Another consideration of your time will be staff’s proposal that board members serve as ambassadors of the organization.  RESNET is undertaking a national marketing campaign that will feature possible media interviews with board members.  At the October board meeting, RESNET staff will propose that in 2011 all board members attend a 1/2 day media training in Washington, DC.  During this training, you will be given tips on how to effectively give interviews to the media.  If approved by the board, RESNET will cover the training but board members would be responsible for their own travel to D.C..

The electronic ballots for the 2010 RESNET Board of Directors election will be posted on November 5, 2010 and the deadline for voting will be December 1, 2010.

After the nomination period has expired and before the electronic ballots are posted, RESNET will post bios and statements from candidates seeking election to the RESNET Board.

This is an opportunity for you to nominate them for national recognition. To recognize leadership in the rating industry, RESNET has established the Rating Industry Achievement Awards.

There are three categories in which you can nominate yourself or another organization:

RESNET Market Transformation Award

This award will be presented to the organization/rater that has made the most significant contribution to penetrating their housing market with rating services while maintaining the quality of the services. Applicants must clearly document the significance of the impact of their program in the defined housing market. The criteria for the award would be the organization’s quantifiable impact on the defined housing market, the significance of the housing market, support of national programs such as ENERGY STAR or Builders Challenge, and the transferability of the effort.

RESNET Industry Innovation Award

This award will be presented to the organization that has developed and implemented the most innovative program or policy. Applicants must clearly document why the program, idea, effort and its impact is unique. The criteria for the award would be originality, creativity, and impact on the rating industry.

RESNET Program Leadership Award

This award will recognize the outstanding contribution of that a residential energy efficiency initiative has made to the rating industry. Programs such as Building America, ENERGY STAR, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, or a government agency lending institution or local, regional or national level would qualify for this category.

The RESNET Rating Industry Achievement Awards will be awarded by the RESNET Board of Directors and presented at the 2011 RESNET Building Performance Conference.
