ENERGY STAR v3 Training

March 8th, 2011 - Posted by Brett Dillon under RESNET News, Upcoming Events

The ENERGY STAR program is being changed, bringing more oversight to the construction process with a focus on HVAC design and installation practices.

There is a phase-in period, version 2.5, that is allowed for homes permitted after April 1, 2011 or completed between July 1 and December 31, 2011. This phase-in period requires HERS Raters to do all of the work on the verification of the additional checklists, but non-compliance with the additional checklists on the part of the trade contractors and builder are not grounds for denying certification.

Effective January 1, 2011, all homes certified as ENERGY STAR compliant must have a Rater who has been trained in the new program standards. Any RESNET-accredited Trainer who did not attend the EPA Train the Trainer Sessions last year must attend one of these trainings before teaching the new material.

IBS Advisors is pleased to announce our new ENERGY STAR Rater training. We will be conducting one in San Antonio March 16-18, Corpus Christi April 6-8, Tennessee April 27-29, Dallas-Ft Worth June 6-8, and San Antonio June 29-July 1.

Thanks for helping to spread the word! Just to clarify: Homes qualified under Version 3 (which will take effect on January 1, 2012) must be verified by a Rater who has completed Version 3 training. That requirement is not in force during 2011, except in the case of a locally-sponsored Version 3 pilot.

And, we’ll be in Charlotte, NC providing an Energy Star Version 3 Training for HERS Raters on April 18-19. In addition, we’ll also be providing training for builders and architects, as well as HVAC contractors!
