home scale online toolIn order for consumers to invest in high energy performance homes, they need to easily understand the benefits of such homes.  The U.S. Department of Energy has launched a new online tool that should make this task easier.  The EnergySmart Home ScaleSM online tool is an interactive feature on the Builders Challenge website that enables homebuyers to see just how much money they can save by making smart energy decisions. By clicking on an EnergySmart Home ScaleSM score, the pop-up tool shows how much money could be saved relative to a typical existing home, or how many 500-megawatt power plants could be removed or not built if all new homes were built to a lower, more efficient, score on the EnergySmart Home Scale. The Department of Energy’s EnergySmart Home Scale is built upon RESNET’s Home Energy Rating Index.  To view the new online tool, click on: http://www1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/challenge/escale.html
