International Code Council Recognizes RESNET Continuing Education Training on the Energy Rating Index Option of the International Energy Conservation Code

Jun 1, 2016

As part of the International Code Council (ICC) – RESNET partnership, RESNET has received designation as an ICC Preferred Education Provider.  This means that RESNET Accredited Training Providers, acting as RESNET Instructors, can now offer continuing education units (CEU’s) based on ICC approved RESNET training courses

The ICC has recently approved RESNET’s application for a course offering entitled “The 2015 IECC and the Energy Rating Index (ERI) Compliance Option”.  This course will be offered through the RESNET network of Accredited Training Providers with only certified RESNET Trainers as instructors.  The course has been approved for 8 contact hours of instruction qualifying it for .8 CEUs.

This training will introduce participants to the 2015 IECC and its Section R406 (Energy Rating Index), RESNET, and the principles used by certified HERS® raters to rate home efficiency to produce an ERI score.

Upon completion of this training, students will be able to:

  • Explain the requirements of the 2015 IECC and its prescriptive and performance compliance options
  • Explain the ERI compliance option of the 2015 IECC
  • Compare the requirements of the ERI option, Prescriptive, and Performance (R405) paths of code compliance
  • Describe the structure of the RESNET HERS® industry
  • Distinguish the roles of RESNET, Quality Assurance Providers and certified raters/field inspectors
  • Explain the site inspection and performance testing requirements associated with energy ratings
  • Explain the role of quality assurance in the RESNET HERS® rating industry
  • Describe the energy modeling inputs used to generate ERI scores
  • Identify the features of ERI compliance reports

A notice will soon be sent to RESNET Accredited Training Providers to apply to offer the training.  This represents another business development opportunity for RESNET Certified Rater Trainers. A copy of the updated ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301-2014 Standard for the Calculation and Labeling of the Energy Performance of Low-Rise Residential Buildings using as Energy Rating Index can be obtained through ICC at ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301-2014 Standard
