LifeStyle Homes Commits to Having Homes Energy Rated and Marketing the Homes HERS Index – First Builder in Florida to Make Commitment

June 3rd, 2011 - Posted by RESNET under Hot News

Lifestyle Homes, a builder based in Brevard County, Florida is committing to have all of their homes rated and marketing their homes’ HERS Index.

Lifestyle Homes and RESNET have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together in promoting improved home energy performance and home energy ratings of new homes.

The intent of the MOU is to raise consumers knowledge of new home energy performance by using RESNET’s HERS Index. This will clearly differentiate homes built by Lifestyle Homes and put competitive pressure on the new home industry in the Florida market to follow suit. It is expected that this agreement will serve as a model to other local and regional builders that would have positive outcomes for consumers, RESNET and the new home industry.

Lifestyle Homes participates in both the ENERGY STAR and Builder Challenge programs. They are now building Zero Energy Homes. The company was recently recognized by the Department of Energy Builders Challenge Program for producing the lowest HERS rating for a Zero Energy Home during the International Builders Show in Orlando this year. Jake Luhn of Lifestyle builders has also committed the resources and time of his company to build the Extreme Makeover home for the Thurston family this past February in Brevard County. This was the first Zero Energy Home that Extreme Makeover has ever built. LifeStyle Homes guarantees that all of there homes receive a 60 on the HERS Index. RESNET is interested in entering into similar agreements with other regional and local builders. Energy raters who have builder clients who would be interested in entering into an agreement with RESNET should contact Steve Baden at sbaden@resnet.us
