Listen Now! RESTalk EP13: “Installed Performance of Bathroom Ventilation Fans”

Nov 20, 2018
You may know ventilation fan performance is dependent on several factors, yet some of these factors may surprise you.
In this episode, we speak with Russell Pope, Industry Development Manager for  Suppliers Advisory Boardmember Panasonic, and learn the intricacies involved in delivering proper ventilation in a residential setting.
Russell educates us on the evolution of ventilation fans, including test protocols to ensure proper performance of the fan unit itself. We also hear about the differences in the approach to ventilation and filtration outside of the US, as well as what’s happening with kitchen ventilation, and the impact of produced sound levels on equipment usage.
Most importantly, we discuss the importance of proper installation, venting, vent terminations, and testing to ensure installed performance. Russell notes an important study on vent cap performance by David Escatel (Texas A&M) which may be found at this link: www.bit.ly/VentPerf
Another great resource is the recently released HERS® Rater training video, “Measuring Ventilation Airflow – Why and How”, jointly produced by RESNET and Panasonic, to show HERS® Raters the most common testing methods for exhaust ventilation airflow.
Russell shares with us his background and passion for the work he does, which includes a lot of education and training. He says Panasonic’s team of indoor air quality specialists are available to assist Raters with field training, any time it’s needed. “We want to build stronger relationships with RESNET and Raters because we recognize the importance of it.”
