Message from RESNET Board President Mark Jansen

Mar 12, 2012

I have been honored by being elected by the RESNET Board of Directors as the RESNET Board President for 2012.  I would like to take a moment of your time to share with you where RESNET is now and where I plan to lead us over this year.

Let me first introduce myself.  First and foremost I am a rater in addition I am a rating provider and a rater training provider.  I have been involved in the building performance industry since 1980.

The 2012 RESNET Building Performance Conference was a huge success with attendees from every state as well as international attendees.  For the first time builders were highly represented and solid communications established between builders and raters.

Over the last year RESNET had many accomplishments including revisions to RESNET standards that will affect the rating industry’s business.  These include the Standard for Performance Testing and Work Scope Enclosure and Air Distribution Leakage Testing (Chapter 8 ) and the RESNET Quality Assurance Standard (Chapter 9).  Be sure to review and become familiar with their provisions.

We have also forged strong partnerships with the nation’s leading national and local builders for promoting the HERS® Index and contractors promoting the RESNET Energy Smart Home Performance Teams.

My vision is that the RESNET HERS® Index will become as well known as the MPG sticker on a car.  In 2012 RESNET will be working with builders and manufacturers to launch a major public awareness campaign.  I invite you to join us in this effort.  You will be hearing more about this in the future.

I have been asked by many what they can do to help promote the industry.  The greatest help that you can do is to contact your builder clients, explain the market benefits of the HERS® Index and encourage them to sign the RESNET Energy Smart Builder MOU.

RESNET needs your active support.  In 2012 you will be receiving messages from RESNET concerning proposed changes to our standards and procedures as well as calls for action to support legislation that is critical to our industry.

I look forward to working you in continuing to grow our industry.
