NAIMA to host Free Webinar “Buried Ducts: A New Path for High Performance Vented Attics”

Apr 10, 2017

The North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA)/Insulation Institute has contracted with Home Innovations Research Labs (HIRL) to conduct a free webinar “Buried Ducts: A New Path for High Performance Vented Attics” on Wednesday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.

The 2018 IECC laid out a prescriptive path for the use of buried ducts with fibrous insulation in vented attics, for all climate zones. This new path was approved because it will allow builders to get much of the energy efficiency benefits of an unvented attic with closed cell spray foam by instead doing a traditional vented attic with the ducts buried in fibrous insulation.

Some of the research used to support this code change was performed by Home Innovation Research Labs (HIRL), led by Dave Mallay. On this webinar, Dave will explain the research that led to the code change, what the benefits are of this design approach and walk through how to comply with the new code language.
