Opportunities for HERS® Raters with the International Energy Conservation Code to be a Focus of the 2018 RESNET Building Performance Conference

The Energy Rating Index option of International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) is being adopted by state and municipal code jurisdictions across the nation.  Besides the Energy Rating Index, over 300 state and local code jurisdictions have adopted a HERS® Index code compliance option.  In addition, code officials across the nation rely on certified RESNET HERS® Raters to conduct energy code inspections and testing.

The newly adopted 2018 IECC includes a number of exciting opportunities:

  • Incorporation of the ANSI/RESNET/International Code Council Standard 301 to define how to calculate the Energy Rating Index
  • More realistic Energy Rating Index Score requirements
  • Resolution of on-site power issues in the Energy Rating Index option
  • Incorporation of the ANSI/RESNET/ICC Standard 380 to define how to conduct air leakage testing

There is also an exciting opportunity for HERS® Raters to become certified ICC Energy Code Inspectors and become members of the ICC.
