Reflections on 2017

Dec 29, 2017

Steve Baden, RESNET Executive Director

2017 was a dramatic year for RESNET and the HERS® industry.

The year saw our organization and industry in sound health as demonstrated by:

  • A Growth in the Demand for HERS® Ratings – Over 226,000 homes were HERS® Rated in 2017 (surpassing the record breaking 206,000 homes that were rated in the record breaking year of 2016)
  • RESNET in Sound Financial Footing – RESNET has over $1.4 million in reserves ($300,000 more that was in reserve in 2016)
  • RESNET Properly Managed – Received clean bills of health from first financial and ANSI standards development audits

Notable accomplishments that were achieved in 2017 include:

  • Surpassing the 2 millionth home HERS® Rated milestone – It took 20 years for the first million homes to be HERS® rated and less than five years to achieve the second million
  • Increased  staff resources to meet the needs of the organization – Added Emma Bennett, Administrative Assistant; Valerie Briggs, Communications Director; Scott Doyle, Quality Assurance Manager; and Ryan Meres, Programs Director
  • Improved the speed and responsiveness of RESNET web site
  • Launched marketing campaign to grow awareness of RESNET and the HERS® Index
  • Worked in partnership with the International Code Council to educate code officials on HERS® Raters being the gold standard on home energy performance verification

You will soon be receiving a 2017 RESNET annual report that covers these achievements.

We could not achieve these notable gains without the contributions of the HERS® Raters and Providers, builders, the RESNET board of directors and the RESNET network.

There is much to celebrate that together we achieved in 2017 but RESNET is not content to rest on its laurels.

We have set some ambitious goals for 2018.

Let’s work together and enter the great wide open.

Hope to see you at the 2018 RESNET Building Performance Conference in February in Orlando, Florida!
