RESNET Amends CO Testing/CAZ Depressurization Test to Recognize ANSI Std

Feb 20, 2024

After an extensive public review and comment process, the RESNET Standards Management Board has adopted a standard amendment that replaces RESNET’s CO testing and CAZ depressurization test standard with Appendix A of the ANSI/ACCA 12 QH Standard.

The reason for the standard amendment is that the RESNET Board adopted a policy not to complete with an ANSI standard from an industry partner.  The RESNET Board found that continuing to develop and improve CAZ standards would compete with an existing ANSI Standard which would contribute to greater confusion in the marketplace.  It is also a policy of ANSI accredited Standard Development Organizations not to compete with other existing ANSI standards.  The ANSI/ACCA standard was developed in cooperation with RESNET.

The adopted amendment will not go into effect until after the RESNET CAZ tests are modified to be based upon Appendix A of the ANSI/ACCA 12 QH Standard.  This should not be difficult since the RESNET CAZ simulation test aligns very well with the ANSI/ACCA Standard 12 QH.

Certified RESNET HERS® Raters and Rating Field Inspectors who have passed the current version of the RESNET CAZ tests will not be required to take and pass the modified tests that reflects the ANSI/ACCA standard.
