State of New Jersey Adopts Energy Rating Index Compliance Option to State Energy Code

Oct 13, 2015

On September 21, 2015 the State of New Jersey joined the ranks of states that have adopted the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).  Included with the adoption is the Energy Rating Index compliance option (N1106).

The required Energy Rating Index scores in New Jersey that must be met are:

Climate Zone 4                                             54 or lower

Climate Zone 5                                             55 or lower

The Energy Rating Index scores required in the state are contained in Section R406 of the 2015 IECC.

The New Jersey code also requires that the Energy Rating Index reference design meet the minimum prescriptive requirements of the 2006 IECC.

The new state energy code will go into effect on March 21, 2016.
