The State of Hawaii Adopts Energy Rating Index Option to Their Building Energy Code

Apr 19, 2017

The State of Hawaii has joined the ranks of states and municipalities that have adopted the 2015 IECC Energy Rating Index option.

On March 20, 2017 Hawaii Governor David Yutaka Ige approved the incorporation of an amended 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) as the State Energy Conservation Code.  The State Energy Conservation Code version of the 2015 IECC includes the Energy Rating Index compliance option.

There were no modifications to the Energy Rating Index score or efficiency back stop provisions of the 2015 IECC Energy Rating Index.

In order to be enforced each county in the state must adopt the code.

There are now a total of thirteen states that now have adopted the Energy Rating Index option as a compliance option to their state energy code.  The states that have incorporated the Energy Rating Index into their energy code are:

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Vermont
