The Obama administration announced the $129.7 million effort last week.

With buildings accounting for almost 40 percent of U.S. energy consumption and carbon emissions, the effort is the newest in an array of...

Books for Sale

House Bill Could Help Make Your Home Energy Efficient

(WICHITA, Kan.)
"There's a total oftwelve on each side." Ellsworth Kauffman's solar panels are hard to miss. But, he says,so is the money they'll save.
"Last year our highest bill was $39 for the heat in one month."
Kauffman moved intohis house five years ago with the solar heating system already in place. Water runs through the panels on the roofand throughout pipes in the floor of the house - heating it from the ground up.
"It's quite easy for there to be a difference, a major difference...

HERS Basic Rater Training

The recent announcement that the January jobless rate fell to 9.7% came as a pleasant surprise to economists and financial analysts, many of whom had anticipated sustained double-digit unemployment well into 2010. The year began with 378,000 fewer workers unemployed due to job loss--evidence that the nation's employment outlook could finally be trending upward along with the GDP.

The new job figures also shed light on one area...

Going for "Green" at the 2010 Olympics

Remember soot? A long time ago, before global warming, getting rid of soot was considered a good reason to make our energy supply cleaner and more efficient. These small dirty particles, created from auto and power plant combustion, discolor walls and do worse to our lungs. Their harm is immediate, yet we seem to have forgotten this, as we've become consumed in energy debate about future worries.
Maybe this is because new technologies have helped reduce soot in our environment. But soot (also...

San Diego Solar Water Heating Basics for Homeowners

Solar Water Heating Basics for Homeowners

Senate offers some hope for legislation to combat climate change

Feb 10, 2010
Washington Post

CLIMATE CHANGE legislation, according to conventional wisdom, is all but dead for the year. It fell victim to Senate gridlock, yawning gaps between lawmakers over how and even whether to tackle the issue and President Obama's decision last year to place it third on his list of priorities, after the stimulus and health care.
