Radon Gas
Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas that has been linked to lung cancer at high levels of exposure. It is produced from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil and rocks. While radon gas can seep into a home through dirt floors, basement drains, cracks in concrete foundations, concrete block walls, sumps, joints, and other locations, studies have shown that it is impossible to predict whether any one house will have high levels of radon. If you are concerned about radon gas in your home, a radon test is recommended. To reduce radon levels in your home, you are advised to seal cracks and openings in walls and floors, and around pipes, drains and other penetrations, ventilate the sub-floor in basements, and install a floor in basements with dirt floors.
