To ensure that you’re buying energy efficient windows, look for the ENERGY STAR logo. All ENERGY STAR qualified windows meet or exceed energy efficiency standards set by the US Department of Energy. Before purchasing your windows, confirm with your retailer or contractor that the windows are ENERGY STAR qualified for your climate zone. You may be eligible for financial incentives through your utility company for purchasing ENERGY STAR windows. These incentives are above and beyond tax credits and rebates offered by the US federal government. Poorly installed windows will cause air leaks and drafts, resulting in increased energy costs. Make sure your installer is qualified and experienced (check references) and prepared to follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions, or you may void your warranty. Some warranties require installation by an installer approved by the manufacturer.
