On February 26, 2012 the 2012 RESNET Building Performance Conference will offer half day Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance Inspector Training. HERS® Raters, in good standing with RESNET, have been offered the opportunity to become Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) Accredited Independent Building Envelope Inspectors. SPFA is waiving the enrollment fee and training class cost for this program because of the relationship which SPFA and RESNET have forged and made official in a recent MOU (Method of Understanding). SPFA is looking for individuals with inspection, energy, and insulation knowledge to shorten the learning curve on performing SPF inspections and help us meet SPF industry needs. The role of an Accredited SPFA Independent BE Inspector is to check the work of SPF Applicators to ensure that they do work which meets both Project Specifications and Manufacturer’s Installation Requirements. Three field inspections must be done for each applicator looking to receive SPFA Accreditation and there is currently a shortage of inspectors. To qualify, a HERS® Rater must also attend the course and pass the test for Fundamentals of Spray Polyurethane Foam for the Independent Building Envelope Inspector. This course is complimentary to HERS® Raters, and RESNET membership status will be verified. Enrollment forms will be available for each person who takes the course. In addition, HERS® Raters would need to submit three references of builders for whom they have conducted inspections as well as a resume or job history to complete all SPFA requirements.
