Emergency Use of Remote Inspections for HERS® Ratings Extended 9/30/20

Aug 5, 2020 Raters

From the Desk of RESNET Executive Director Steve Baden
June 19, 2020

On March 31, 2020, RESNET issued emergency rules allowing the option of remote inspections for HERS® Ratings by certified RESNET HERS® Raters. These rules were put into place as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and national emergency declaration. The emergency rules were in effect for 90 days. The ruling also allowed that the temporary provisions could be extended by RESNET as necessary in light of developments with the pandemic.

Currently, even though states are in the process of opening up their economies, the national COVID-19 emergency declaration is still in effect. In addition, there are a large number of states where the cases of COVID-19 infection is increasing. For these reasons with the emergency authority granted to me, I am extending the option of using the remote inspection protocols to September 30, 2020. This extension will be revisited by RESNET as necessary in light of developments with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The HERS® rating emergency protocols are posted on RESNET’s web site at Temporary RESNET Protocols for Remote Field Inspections During the COVID Pandemic.
