RESNET has lost a great friend with the recent passing of Jerry Thatcher founder of the Valparaiso, Indiana-based HERS® rating company, Energy Diagnostics. Jerry was a true visionary pioneer in the HERS® industry. Jerry and his wife Karen founded Energy Diagnostics when energy rating was a relatively new concept. They grew the company from its humble beginnings operating out of the basement of their home to its current office which recently underwent a significant expansion. Energy Diagnostics has grown considerably over the past 30 years since its inception and now has a staff of nearly 50 employees who perform HERS® ratings, HVAC design, above-code certification, and air sealing services throughout the country with an emphasis on the Midwest. The company has HERS-rated over 60,000 homes since being founded. Jerry was passionate about advancing energy efficiency measures in new construction and improvement of energy code compliance on a national level. Jerry Thatcher will always be remembered by those who had the privilege to work with him for his passion and vision, wit, and wisdom as well as his dedication to RESNET and our industry. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the continued growth of the company he founded and lovingly nurtured and his heirs whom he entrusted with the ongoing leadership of the company.
