May 1, 2025 BuildersProvidersRaters

In its 2024 Sustainability Report, the 18th edition of the longest-running publication of its kind in the industry, KB Home reported results that demonstrate that its high-performance, energy- and water-efficient homes can help reduce the total cost of homeownership and support the American Dream. The leading national builder reported that their unified strategy for affordability and sustainability provides benefits to homeowners, communities and the environment.

The notable sustainability milestones KB Home reported in 2024 include:

• Built its 200,000th ENERGY STAR® certified home — more than any other builder — reinforcing its position as the #1 energy-efficient national homebuilder.

• Achieved an average Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index score of 45, among the lowest in the industry, a year ahead of the goal it set in 2020. This means that a 2024 KB home is 55% more energy efficient than a typical home built as recently as 2006.

• Cumulatively built over 26,000 WaterSense® labeled and Water Smart homes and installed more than 1.2 million WaterSense labeled fixtures, helping to conserve an estimated 2.1 billion gallons of water annually and save their homeowners money for years to come.

• Helped its customers save an estimated $1.3 billion on their utility bills since 2000. A KB home built in 2024 can deliver to its homeowners an estimated average of $1,800 annually in utility savings compared to a typical resale home.

We are proud to lead the industry in building high-performance homes that help to lower the total cost of homeownership and sustain the American dream,” said Jeffrey Mezger, KB Home Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “KB Home was founded with the goal of making first-time homeownership more affordable through innovative thinking. For the last 18 years, one of the primary ways we have done that is through our expanding dedication to sustainability as a means to build a better home that can be more affordable.”

With its 2024 Sustainability Report, KB Home became the first national homebuilder to utilize all three of RESNET sustainability building performance measurement systems: HERS, HERSH2O®, and the HERS Carbon Index®.

With this year’s report, the major national builder also became the first in the industry to introduce an Executive Summary report, which presents concise highlights of sustainability strategies and results for time-crunched readers. They also continue to publish complete results and comprehensive sustainability data in their full Sustainability Report.

KB Home operates in 49 markets, has built nearly 700,000 quality homes in their more than 65-year history, and is honored to be the #1 customer-ranked national homebuilder based on third-party buyer surveys.
