This coordination matrix was developed as an example to support discussion and planning among HERS® Raters, Builders, and the various trades participating in the completion of a HERS Rating. The intent of this matrix is to serve as a practical coordination tool illustrating where activities typically occur throughout the construction process and where successful outcomes depend on timely communication between parties. It is not intended to establish new requirements or replace the HERS® Standard, Rating Software requirements, ENERGY STAR program documents, Provider procedures, or builder agreements. Many issues identified through quality assurance activities do not result from a lack of technical knowledge. They more likely come from missed handoffs, incomplete documentation, unclear ownership, or inspections occurring too late in the construction process. This matrix is an attempt to help reduce those risks by identifying key activities, expected coordination points, typical deliverables, and common dependencies that affect completion of a compliant rating. The activities shown represent common practices and considerations associated with completing a HERS Rating and, where applicable, associated energy efficiency programs. Not every item will apply to every project, and users should adapt the matrix to their own workflows, provider procedures, local code requirements, and program obligations. Thank you for reviewing this material and for your continued work supporting accurate, consistent, and high-quality HERS Ratings. Download the Coordination Framework for HERS Ratings
