There is a need for an American National Standard for testing the air leakage of enclosures and heating and cooling air distribution systems, and the airflow of mechanical ventilation systems. Home energy raters, energy auditors and code officials will benefit from a standard to evaluate the performance of these systems in residential buildings. To meet this need, RESNET, as an accredited ANSI Standard Developer, is proposing a standard that will establish procedures for measuring the air leakage of building enclosures, the air leakage of heating and cooling air distribution systems, and the airflow of mechanical ventilation systems. Based on Chapter Eight “RESNET Standard for Performance Testing and Distribution Leakage Testing” of the RESNET Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating Standards, the RESNET 300 Standard Development Committee has drafted Preliminary Draft Standard BSR/RESNET 380-20xx PDS-1 to fill this need. This draft standard is now undergoing the public review and comment process. Interested parties are encouraged to comment on the proposed draft standard. Public comments will be accepted through April 28, 2014. To submit your comments click on RESNET 380 PDS-1. Comments are posted real time and you will be able to review comments that were submitted by clicking on Comments Submitted on RESNET 380 PDS-1.
