Over 30 years ago, the National Association of State Energy Officials and Energy Rated Homes of America founded the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to develop a national market for home energy ratings and energy-efficient mortgages.

Today, RESNET is a recognized national standards-making body for building energy efficiency rating and certification systems in the United States. Those non-ANSI proprietary standards were known as the RESNET “Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating Standards” (MINHERS).

As times have changed, and more products have been introduced such as HERSH2O® and the HERS Carbon® Index, the work of RESNET continues to serve the mortgage industry, residential construction, and home performance industries as well.

Therefore, RESNET now has rebranded MINHERS standards as the “RESNET Home Energy Rating System (HERS®) Standards”. This name change reflects the growth of RESNET, the industry, and the strategic goals of the organization.
