The ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301 Standard is the foundation of the HERS® Index and the calculation of energy performance for dwelling and sleeping units. Like the energy code, the standard is updated every three years. Unlike energy code updates, however, revisions to Standard 301 are not intended to increase stringency. Instead, they are designed to improve consistency among Raters and software tools and refine how buildings are modeled as technologies and industry practices evolve. As the 2028 edition moves through the standards development process, RESNET® invites Raters, Providers, software developers, builders, and other industry stakeholders to join us for a webinar exploring the proposed changes and what they could mean for their work. Although development is currently underway, compliance with Standard 301-2028 is not expected to be required until 2029. This webinar will provide a guided overview of the revisions being considered for the 2028 edition, why they have been proposed, and how they may affect ratings, software tools, and field practices. Participants will learn about the proposed changes before the public comment period, helping them submit informed and meaningful feedback as the standard moves through the development process.
