Ben is responsible for the identification and development of new services at MaGrann, and supports program design for state and utility sponsored energy efficiency initiatives.  With 30 years in residential single and multi-family deployment, his experience ranges from low income retrofit to new construction and green building certification programs.  Most recently, he has been focusing on integration of Internet of Things technologies into smart homes and buildings.  Ben sat on the RESNET Board of Directors from 2002 through 2016, was a Board Director of Affordable Comfort (now HPC) and a founding Board member of both the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance and the Northeast HERS Alliance.  He is a frequent conference presenter and participant in national strategy sessions addressing residential energy issues, particularly related to whole-building approaches.  Ben began his career in energy efficiency at the New Zealand Ministry of Energy in 1982.  He has an MBA from Drexel University and a B.S. from the University of Canterbury.

Sandra is an appraiser, instructor, author, and course developer.  The Appraisal Institute published her book, “Residential Green Valuation Tools” in April 2014.  She spearheaded the development of the AI Residential and Commercial Green and Energy Efficient Addendums. In July 2016, the Appraisal Institute presented her the Outstanding Service Award.

Sandra is a consultant to builders, governmental agencies, utility companies, real estate agents, and energy organizations. She speaks on the valuation of green features at events such as GreenBuild, IBS, EEBA, ACI, The White House Conference Center, National Association of REALTORS®, National Association of Home Builders, and Appraisal Institute Conferences. 

She was on the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory team that produced in 2015, “Selling into the Sun: Price Premium Analysis of a Multi-State Dataset of Solar Homes” and “Appraising Into The Sun.”  You will find her webinar, “6 Things You Didn’t Know About Appraising Green Home Features,” as part of the Online NAR Green Courses.

Sandra authored the study, "What is Green Worth? Unveiling High-Performance Home Premiums in Washington, D.C.,” funded by the District Department of Energy and sponsored by Institute for Market Transformation.

In 2016 the Appraisal Institute presented her with the Outstanding Service Award.

Chrissi Antonopoulos is a senior energy analyst at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division. Her primary research focus is in residential buildings, where she supports projects investigating thermal envelopes, indoor air quality and program analysis. Chrissi has lead research tasks focusing on code development for renewable energy technologies, and market forecasting of green building in the commercial sector. Chrissi is the operations manager for the Department of Energy's Building America Solution Center and part of PNNL's Building America team. Chrissi has a BS and MS of Urban Studies with a focus on energy technologies and sustainable development, and is currently a PhD student at Portland State University.

Educated as an architect, Jacob has over 35 years of technology and green building experience. He developed KB Home’s ProjeKt concept home that explored the future of smart, sustainable and healthy homes. KB Home has built over 137,000 ENERGY STAR certified homes, of which 10,000 are solar-powered homes and 150 are also LEED certified homes. Previously, Jacob developed KB Home’s Energy Performance Guide, which provides KB homeowners with information on the relative energy efficiency and estimated energy costs.

Steve Baden has worked in the residential energy efficiency field for over twenty five years, including eighteen years with home energy ratings and energy mortgages on both the state and national levels, and ten years administering a state energy office. Mr. Baden initiated the "Warm Homes for Alaskans Initiative" which received the "1993 National Award for the Most Outstanding State Housing Program" from the National Council of State Housing Agencies. Steve was also awarded "Lifetime Achievement Awards" from the U.S. Department of Energy and RESNET.

Mike Barcik is a Senior Engineer for Technical Services at Southface.  With B.S and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech, Mike is the author of numerous technical resources and has developed and lead thousands of trainings for RESNET, BPI, LEED, DOE, EPA and other programs. He's active in energy code development and often leads workshops on the latest code changes. Since 1999, Mike has trained over 1,400 individuals in RESNET's Home Energy Rating System (HERS) program and in 2010, helped create the Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier program to certify over a thousand individuals for blower door and duct leakage testing, as required by the 2009 IECC.  Mike served as LEED Faculty for BD+C, EB O&M, and Homes as well as helped develop and teach the EarthCraft family of sustainable programs. He recently helped author Decatur Georgia's High Performance Building Ordinance which requires 3rd party certification for new single-family, multi-family, and commercial projects.

Tony Beres is a Building Inspector/Energy Rater at the Center for Energy and Environment located in St. Paul, MN.  As part of the CEE's residential new homes department, Tony has assessed hundreds of homes and multi-family units and has assisted in field testing for several Department of Energy studies on aerosol sealing and multi-family building performance. He also works closely with home performance contractors and utilities to provide quality assurance for various utility rebate and weatherization programs.
He is a certified HERS Rater, Energy Star Rater, BPI Building Analyst, NGBS Green Verifier, and PHIUS+ Rater.

Molly Berg is the Building Science Specialist in US Construction at Habitat for Humanity International. Her main role is to assist Habitat affiliates across the country in sharing best practices in planning, building, and funding resilient and efficient construction. She has been with Habitat for Humanity for 12 years – in addition to her current position, she has been an AmeriCorps VISTA, Site Supervisor, and Sustainable Building Program Manager. Molly came to Habitat from 12 years as a builder in residential construction and holds a B.S. in Urban Studies from the University of Minnesota.

Michael Berry has over 20 years of experience in the energy conservation field. He is the Client Director for the Mass Save Residential New Construction Program/High Performance Homes Working Group in Massachusetts. Michael has chaired the Green Building Council (GBC) for the Builders Association of Greater Boston’s (BAGB) and was also on their Board of Directors. As the chair for the council, he was responsible for the coordination of trainings and networking events that introduce sustainable building practices to the Greater Boston Building Community. He has contributed to articles in the Boston Globe and has been a technical editor for RS Means reviewing technical manuals on sustainable building practices. Michael is also a Subject Matter Expert for the State of Massachusetts Green Community Programs Stretch Energy Code overseen by the Department of Energy Resources (DOER).


Michael has past experience managing income eligible programs regionally for the Department of Energy, the Department of Housing and Community Development in Boston, Housing and Urban Development along with several utility funded energy efficiency programs. He also worked directly with the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center in their rehab and small renewable grants programs, along with creating and managing storm recovery programs. He has worked with low to moderate income clients residing in Massachusetts. Clients were served by the programs Michael managed with single and multifamily rehabilitation/weatherization programs, heating system repairs and replacements, appliance management programs, ENERGY STAR New Construction Homes, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs, and small renewable projects. In 2009, Michael was awarded “The Top 30 under 40,” a national award given by the National Association of Homebuilders, for his work with the Systems Built Industry.

John Bloemer has been in the IAQ industry for over 22 years with Aprilaire, the market leader in Healthy Air products and solutions.  As Aprilaire’s Director of Engineering, John focused on consumer and professional-grade products. He holds extensive experience in the Consumer Goods, Plumbing and HVAC industries.


John currently holds the position of Executive Advisor and Engineering Fellow, and is the recipient of over 20 US and foreign patents.

Sam Bowles specializes in building industry communications and market research to understand and shape perceptions on building technologies and designs. In his nearly 10 years with Newport Partners he has conducted numerous market research studies, created and implemented communications plans, and developed Social Media initiatives for multiple public and private sector clients. He currently serves as the Communications Director for the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home Program, assisting innovative home builders in the U.S. with social media marketing tools and strategies to increase market share of high performance homes. Sam has an MBA from Columbus State University (2012) and holds a Bachelors from Union College.

Derek Briggs is a QA/QC inspector for ICF representing the Mass Save New Construction Program’s Renovations and Additions path. Derek works directly with home owners and builders to provide guidance and incentives on residential renovations and additions projects. Derek has worked in the energy efficiency and sustainability fields since obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Building and Construction Technology from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst in 2014.

Michelle Britt is the Director of Energy Programs at the International Code Council. She has over 15 years’ experience impacting building energy use and broader sustainability. She has served national, state and local governments, industry, and non-profits across the US and the Pacific.  Her broad background in land use and transportation planning, and environmental impact analysis brings a holistic approach to her work in building energy. Previously, she was a partner with the Britt/Makela Group and a Senior Research Scientist with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and a Master’s degree in Architecture.

Michael is a project manager with ICF, where he supports energy efficiency policy development and implementation for federal, state, local, and utility clients. Michael has supported the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR Certified Homes program since 2012. Michael has also previously worked helping the U.S. DOE develop energy conservation standards and test procedures for appliances and equipment.

Lariece Brown is a quantitative analytics director in the Single-Family Affordable Lending and Access to Credit division. She leads a team conducting analytics and research of underserved markets. She has extensive experience in research to support fair lending, affordable lending, and assessing opportunities to expand access to credit. 

Ms. Brown has also served as a senior financial economist and section chief with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Ms. Brown earned her M.A. in mathematics and Ph.D. in economics from The Ohio State University.

Mike Browne holds a B.S. in Material Science and Engineering from Brown University. He is the founder of ABA. As more and more energy efficiency alternatives become available, Mike is excited to be able to help home builders quantify their options and take advantage of the best construction practices and the best funding assistance programs available(tax credits, rebates, grants and energy efficient mortgages). Mike is a RESNET certified Energy Rater as well as the first 2012 NGBS accredited Verifier in Massachusetts. He is also a certified PHIUS+ Rater and LEED for Homes Rater, and has trained in Infrared Imaging and Building Science at the world training headquarters of FLIR in Billerica, MA.
Mike is also President and board member of Energy Raters of Massachusetts, Inc., a RESNET accredited HERS Provider that specifically serves independent HERS Raters working in Massachusetts.

Rod Buchalter is the Vice President of Sales and Market Development for Renewability Energy Inc. He is also the President of the Brantford Home Builders' Association in Ontario, Canada. Rod spent 20 years with Union Gas, a large natural gas utility in Southwestern Ontario, in various Account Management roles working with builders, retailers and HVACS promoting Drain Water Heat Recovery ( DWHR). Currently he develops residential and commercial DWHR programs in partnership with utilities and large production builders like KB Home. Rod graduated from the Business program at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 1989 with a major in Marketing.

Bob Burns is Co-Founder and President of Pivotal Energy Solutions, LLC, a Phoenix-based technology solutions company established in 2011.  Pivotal's Axis platform serves as a data hub for the collection, storage, and sharing of residential energy efficiency data by streamlining the energy rating process and energy efficiency program participation, quality control, and administration, and enabling stakeholders to enhance the value and demand for energy efficient homes.  Prior to starting Pivotal, Bob was Director of Engineering at a global semiconductor company where he and his Pivotal business partner, Steven Klass, developed design, workflow automation, and infrastructure software solutions.  Bob received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University.

Thiel Butner is the Managing Principal of Pando Alliance, a mission-driven firm that specializes in ratings, green certifications, and investment-grade audits for affordable multifamily housing in Maryland and the surrounding region.  She works closely with all of the major green building programs, coaches project teams through their certifications, and provides technical oversight to her staff.  As a Principal, she develops processes that allow for growth and efficiency while retaining quality and integrity.

Thiel graduated from Prescott College with BA in Environmental Studies and a concentration in Ecological Design, received her MBA from Hood College, and maintains numerous industry credentials.  She serves on the RESNET Board of Directors and the RESNET Technical Standards Development Committee (SDC 300), and she is the Chair of the Enclosures Subcommittee of SDC 300.

Tom has been with JM for thirty-three years and his team of field technical representative are responsible for teaching customers to properly install fiberglass, mineral wool, continuous insulation and spray foam insulation in the USA and Canada.

Olga M. Cano is an Environmental Engineer in the Homes Program at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense® Program. She is involved in the development and implementation of the WaterSense Homes specification and certification system. Through this program, the EPA aims to promote water efficient practices in buildings.  Prior to joining EPA in 2015, Ms. Cano worked as an architect in the hospitality and residential sector for 7+ years and then went on to serve in the Peace Corps as a Water & Sanitation Volunteer in Peru. Ms. Cano holds a B.A. in Architecture from Florida International University and a Masters of Science in Environmental Engineering from Michigan Technological University.

With over 38 years of experience with Georgia Power, Tim currently serves as a Program Manager in the Energy Efficiency Organization. In this role, he is responsible for program implementation as well as representing the Company on the national and state level with numerous industry and energy efficiency organizations.
Previous experience within the Company include various roles in Customer Service, External Affairs, and Sales/Marketing.
He is a graduate of Columbus State University with degrees in Political Science as well as Business Administration.
In addition to his daily responsibilities as Program Manager, Tim is excited to be on the Core Leadership team for the Georgia Power Smart Neighborhood project that he is going to talk about today.

Rengie Chan is a Research Scientist at the Energy Analysis & Environmental Impact Division, and Deputy Leader of the Indoor Environment Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Her research interests include indoor air quality, building ventilation, and energy efficiency in residential and commercial buildings. Her research aims to generate knowledge to enable high performance, net zero energy use buildings that provide healthy and productive indoor environments. She led field studies to characterize indoor contaminant sources and evaluate energy efficient technologies to control occupant exposures. Dr. Chan earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.

Carl is a principal at Winning Strategies Washington (WSW), a mid-sized, bi-partisan lobbying firm.  Carl has over two decades of political experience working on Federal campaigns at the Senate and Presidential levels.  Prior to joining WSW , Carl was a partner in a small government affairs firm for 5 years.

Carl served as Finance Director at the Democratic National Committee from 2006-2009.  His tenure at the DNC allowed him daily interaction with senior members of the Obama campaign team, many of whom have gone on to hold important policy positions in the White House and Executive branch agencies.

Prior to his work at the DNC, Carl served as a senior campaign aide to former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.  He has also worked on Senate campaigns in Missouri, Georgia and Washington State.  Carl also had the opportunity to work for Secretary of State John Kerry’s 2004 campaign for President.

He is a former staffer of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and maintains strong ties with many Senate Chiefs of Staff.

Carl and his family live in northern Virginia.  He is a member of the Foundation Board of Directors for Westminster Presbyterian Church of Alexandria.  Carl served as an enlisted infantry solder in the Army National Guard of New York and Maryland, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1996.  He attended Syracuse University receiving a bachelor of arts in American Studies in 1991.

Matt Christie is a TRC Associate Director with expertise in energy efficiency and energy use reduction for the built environment using a whole-building approach. He has program management and technical experience in program design; program implementation; energy modeling and simulation; home performance energy audits; data and process analysis; and heat transfer and fluid dynamics. Matt was the primary designer of the California’s Advanced Homes Program for both the 2013 and upcoming 2016 Title 24 Energy Codes. Additionally, Matt works in the Pacific Northwest coordinate and align voluntary green certification programs around regional goals.  Matt is Chair of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants (CABEC) and a Certified Energy Analyst (CEA) for residential buildings.

Greg Cobb is the CFO of the Ei family of companies.  Ei provides a range of design, engineering, inspection and risk management services for residential and commercial construction projects across the country.  Previously, Cobb founded Inglenook Financial, Inc. in Scottsdale, AZ.  Inglenook provides innovative solutions to homeowners seeking to finance home improvement, repair or energy projects via licensed contractors.  Prior to Inglenook, Cobb was CFO for US PEACH, which acquires and operates Plumbing, Electrical, Air Conditioning & Heating contractors throughout the Southwest.  Cobb led the team that identified, acquired and integrated 6 home services companies in 3 states.

Previously, Cobb was CEO of Sonoran Air, Inc., a HVAC company based in Phoenix that designed and installed HVAC systems for over 100,000 homes in Arizona.  He joined Sonoran during the housing crisis to execute a turn-around and sold the business to US PEACH in 2014.  While at Sonoran, he founded and spun-off iEngineer, LLC.  Cobb grew iEngineer to provide mechanical system designs for a variety of above-code programs for contractors and builders in 12 states.  iEngineer developed the capability to rapidly provide custom HVAC designs based upon the unique options and solar orientation of each home for production builders.  Cobb sold iEngineer in 2016 to Ei.

Cobb is a member of the RESNET HVAC Task Group developing Standard 310 for design and commissioning standards that will be incorporated into the HERS Index.  He has been a speaker at EEBA, RESNET, EPA and DOE conferences on a variety of HVAC topics.  He is a former President and board member of the Energy & Environmental Building Alliance and a past member of the Advanced Energy HVAC Advisory Board.

Before entering the HVAC industry, Cobb was CFO at a biotech company based in Tucson where he raised $78M in debt and equity financing, including an IPO in 2007.  Cobb was previously Managing Director at a technology mergers & acquisitions firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Cobb has also been a private equity investor, including managing an angel investor group.

Cobb has spent over 20 years in entrepreneurial finance as a CEO/CFO, board member, investor and advisor for public and private high-growth companies.  He has a JD from the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law and an MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, as well as a B.S. in computer engineering from Iowa State University.

Founder and president of Conway Energy, a building science firm specializing in sustainable consulting for affordable and market-rate multi-family, light commercial, and single-family construction. Mr. Conway has been at the forefront of the DC Metro Region sustainable building movement for over ten years. Under his guidance, Conway Energy has developed an extensive portfolio of energy focused and sustainable projects that have helped to improve the built environment across the region. His work supports EarthCraft, Passive House Institute US, Energy Star Multifamily Low and High-rise, and Enterprise Green Communities certifications.

Mr. Crandell has over 30 years of experience in construction, engineering, and innovative building technology research for private and public sector clients.  He has conducted benchmark studies of major natural disasters and conducted research to address significant structural, energy, and building science challenges.  His work has helped to propel many innovative technologies into the International Codes and consensus standards. • Graduated from the University of Puget Sound and lives in the Seattle Washington area.
• 2007-2013 worked for Applied Proactive Technologies (acquired by Clearesult) in the Northwest Washington region on a Joint Utility ENERGY STAR Lighting program that targeted the single and multi-family residential markets. 
• In early 2014  joined Clearesult and worked on an NEEA High Performance Home Specification pilot program.  This program was designed to help builders embrace net zero ready building practices. 
• In 2015 went to Asia with his partner who was teaching on a Fulbright post in Tokyo.  In Nepal when the 2015 earthquake happened.  Stayed in Nepal to do volunteer service work after the earthquake and ended up working on a non-profit contract project until early 2016.
• In 2016  joined the Performance Construction Team at Mitsubishi Electric. The Mitsubishi Performance Construction Team helps promote energy efficient mini-split systems to the high performance residential construction market around the country.  Greg works with high performance builders and the HVAC industry in the Pacific Northwest.

Wes Davis serves as the Technical Services Director for ACCA.  He manages development and maintenance of ACCA’s American national standards and other technical manuals.  He oversees HVACR education and supervises the Quality Assured contractor accreditation.  He supports representation of HVAC contractor interests in the model code development process. He directs responses to ACCA member’s technical inquiries, as well as those from consumers and code enforcement officials.  Wes was a NATE certified technician, a licensed South Carolina HVAC contractor, he wrote Bob’s House, serves on ASHRAE technical committees, and the RESNET’s Standards Management Board.

Robert has been in the building industry for over Thirty years and has been giving AIA talks for over 10 years.  He is also an approved building official course provider in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.  Along with the AIA and Building official programs Robert has developed instructional programs for insulation installers in the areas of HVAC loads and fireplace and flue installation as it pertains to their work.  For the last five years Robert has been presenting to groups such as USGB chapters and Home Builder groups a program that explains life cycle analysis. Robert is an ASTM member serving on several committees. C16 on Thermal insulation, secretary of C16-32 and E06 on Performance of Buildings and a charter member of E60 on Sustainability. 

Robert is certified as a Building Analyst, Infiltration and Duct Leakage and Envelope Professional as well as a testing proctor for both designations from the Buildings Performance Institute.  Robert developed a training program and test center for the BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Professional.

Matt Dovenbarger has been the Primary QAD for Southern Energy Management since 2016.  He enjoys an active role in maintaining the internal quality and consistency of HERS ratings, with a passion for seeking solutions and implementing them.  Matt entered the construction industry almost 20 years ago and gained experience working in many trades including insulation, framing, and roofing.  The opportunity to work extensively in weatherization programs also helped him develop a well rounded perspective of problems that can arise in both new and existing construction.  Matt found his passion for building science at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.

Scott Doyle joined the HERS industry as a HERS Rater in 2003. Since being certified as a rater Scott has inspected and tested the energy performance of thousands of homes across a variety of construction types and climate zones. In 2007 he became a RESNET certified Quality Assurance Designee and Trainer. Mr. Doyle oversaw quality assurance activities for EnergyLogic and five other RESNET HERS Rating Providers. This involved quality assurance oversight of nearly 10,000 homes annually that were HERS rated. From 2008-2014, as a Rater Trainer, Scott trained hundreds of energy professionals across the U.S. using a variety of formats including field, classroom, and e-learning.

As California is reaching both its statewide carbon reduction, and 2020 residential new construction zero net energy goal, we are realizing that our work has only begun. The state’s carbon emissions goals call for another 40 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, and legislation passed earlier this year calls for a carbon free grid, and a carbon neutral California by 2045. Within the building sector, this has led to more focus on zero emissions buildings and less on zero net energy (ZNE) buildings. This panel will explore why ZNE goals do not necessarily equate to zero emissions buildings, and how this has caused California to start rethinking the way we value building efficiency. Panelists will discuss what resulted from California’s final push towards 2020 goals, and how the state is shifting to the new carbon emission mandates. Attendees will learn why carbon may be displacing energy use as the new metric of choice for efficiency.

Laurel Elam has been with RESNET since 2010. She started as RESNET's Conference Coordinator and it 2013 began also serving as Quality Assurance Manager. Lindsey Elton is certified in advanced building science and building diagnostic testing. Sean Evensen-Shanley serves as the Director of Residential Operations for Viridiant, with over 10 years of experience in the sustainability field. He has worked with new and existing single family and multifamily projects pursuing EarthCraft, ENERGY STAR, and LEED for Homes certification. Bill Fabian, Vice President of Monroe Infrared Technology, Inc., has provided infrared training, infrared cameras, and infrared inspections services to Home Inspection, Energy, and Maintenance Professionals since 1986. He works closely with companies of all sizes to ensure that the most appropriate training, the right equipment, and the most thorough infrared inspections are provided to maximize the results of infrared imaging for his customers. Bill has delivered numerous presentations and papers on the use of thermal imaging equipment for home inspectors, energy, and electrical applications to a wide variety of businesses.

As Monroe Infrared’s Director of Training and Lead Inspector, Bill has trained thousands of Thermographers and businesses in the use of infrared imaging cameras for Predictive Maintenance and Building Diagnostics applications. He conducts commercial infrared inspections for Monroe Infrared’s largest commercial accounts throughout the United States and has performed infrared inspections on over 100 million square feet of flat roof systems. Bill was instrumental in developing a practical water intrusion inspection methodology for today’s moisture remediation industry. 

Bill designs and teaches specialized infrared training courses for Monroe Infrared to a broad array of audiences across the country. In 2013, Bill developed the CRT (Certified Residential Thermography) certification program specifically for Home Inspectors. The course is now recognized by almost every home inspection organization in the country. He teaches Level I Certification classes, both through the Infrared Training Center and directly for Monroe Infrared’s customers. He is the one of most highly rated infrared teachers in the country. Todd Gamboa, President of Building Trust LLC, has been in the building industry for almost 30 years, managing private and public homebuilding companies. As a building science consultant and public speaker, he has trained thousands of builders, architects, contractors, code officials, appraisers, and REALTORS® across the country. He has launched and managed energy efficiency programs for state and federal governmental agencies and utility providers. His interactive and effective sales trainings are offered by utility companies, builder and Realtor associations, “Green” businesses, and NFP organizations throughout the US. He has created energy saving programs for the US Government – Dept of Defense/US Army and is managing a High Performance Homes program for the Colorado Energy Office. Mr. Gamboa is also an inductee into the Built Green Hall of Fame and recipient of several US Government Sustainability Awards.

Rick Gazica is a Manager at ICF International with more than 10 years of experience in residential new construction.  During his time with ICF International, he has launched 5 separate new homes programs on behalf of utilities in Maryland and one in Pennsylvania.  In addition to his work with utilities, he also supports the ENERGY STAR Certified Homes program nationally.  He is the corporate account manager for the top 20 production builders and is also the technical training lead for the program as well as a subject matter expert for the client.  Prior to working with ICF, he worked at NVR as a project and costing manager in Virginia and Pennsylvania.  He received his Bachelors degree in Economics from Washington and Lee University in 2004.

Billy Giblin has worked in the high performance building and energy efficiency industry for over ten years. He started this work with a general contractor performing new and retrofit construction. Billy later earned a degree in Energy Management, an energy efficiency engineering program. He went to work with Nexant in 2010, providing quality assurance for utility new home programs and state existing home programs. Billy has been an active HERS Rater since 2011 and is both a LEED for Homes Quality Assurance Designee and a RESNET Quality Assurance Designee. He has completed over a thousand QA field inspections and performance tests of HERS rated new homes, as well as QA review of thousands of energy models. Billy played a prominent role in Utah in HERS Rater training, mentoring and technical support, as well as providing QA, training, and technical support to builders and trade contractors. His previous outdoor education and guiding experience has given him the skills to mentor and motivate people of all ages and abilities, and he utilizes these skills to train and mentor professionals in the high performance home industry.

Theresa (Terri) Gilbride is a building energy-efficiency researcher with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington, where she supports the U.S. Department of Energy as a content manager for DOE’s Building America and Zero Energy Ready Home programs. Terri has authored or co-authored 28 reports and 35 articles on residential energy efficiency and related topics. She served as the lead editor and author or co-author on the Building America best practice guides, a 17-volume series which included climate-specific guides for high-performance home builders in all US climate zones and retrofit guides on air sealing, insulation, and HVAC. She has also published on building codes and emerging technologies including window attachments, solid-state lighting, and HVAC.

John Gillett has worked for 14 years at Energy Inspectors helping to build the companies operational capacities across 5 western states. Over that time period the company has provided 3rd party inspection services for over 200,000 production homes.

With a focus on energy efficiency and sustainable consulting, the company now works with 18 of the top 20 homebuilders in one or more of their markets throughout the United States.

Matt Gingrich has worked at Energy Diagnostics for nearly 15 years, as a Rater, Green Verifier, and QAD. During his time at the Midwest-based firm, he has seen the evolution of the industry, and the impacts of energy-efficient construction. He is a Rater Representative to the RESNET Board and was elected as RESNET Board President in 2019, Matt is also a member and founding chair of the RESNET Emerging Leadership Council.

Emelie has leveraged her background in physics to become an expert building scientist. Her foundation in field-based activities has honed her skills in building analysis and software modeling. She conducted a two-year long research project on cooling systems in Massachusetts that included a comprehensive inspection of 80 homes with data monitoring.

Emelie is President of the Northeast Home Energy Rating Systems Alliance, a RESNET certified Rater, Trainer and Quality Assurance Designer, NAHB green verifier, EPA universal refrigerant handler, and holds two BPI certifications. 

She manages the HERS Provider division of Performance Systems Development and oversees quality assurance for more than 70 raters.

John Godden has over 35 years of experience as a home energy rater, heating system designer and low energy home builder. A graduate of the Bachelor of Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo, John is a leading green and energy rater and consultant for Better Than Code, ENERGY STAR, EnerGuide and LEED for Homes programs. John co-authored the ENERGY STAR version 3 specification and workshops. He works closely with builders through the Savings By Design program to build builder’s brands. He regularly delivers seminars on code updates and performance compliance, air-tightness, better building practices, and sales and marketing.
Currently, John is the director of development for the Canadian Residential Energy Service Network (CRESNET) and board member of the Sustainable Housing Foundation. In addition, John is the publisher of Better Builder Magazine.

David B. Goldstein has worked on energy efficiency and energy policy since the early 1970s.  He currently co-directs NRDC's Energy Program. 

Dr. Goldstein has been instrumental in the development of energy efficiency standards for new buildings and appliances that are currently in effect at the regional and national level in the United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, and China. He was a founding director of the Institute for Market Transformation, the Consortium for Energy Efficiency and the New Buildings Institute.

David B. Goldstein received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the recipient of its Leo Szilard Award for Physics in the Public Interest. He received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2002 and is the recipient of the California Alumni Association’s 2003 Award for Excellence in Achievement. He is also the author of “Saving Energy Growing Jobs” and “Invisible Energy.”

Throughout her thirty-year career, Kathy has worked in many sectors of the energy efficiency field, from research at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL) to college campus programs to community/non-profit approaches. As Senior Vice President of Program Services for Performance Systems Development (PSD), Kathy is responsible for leading PSD’s growing energy efficiency program team and providing oversight to the design, management, and implementation of energy efficiency programs and services across multiple states. In Pennsylvania, Kathy and her team served in an integral role in developing the residential efficiency industry across the Commonwealth through the development of the award winning statewide ENERGY STAR New Homes and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program, PA Home Energy.

When not working to improve the efficiency of the built environment, Kathy enjoys spending time with her two grown daughters, and traveling, and has visited over 22 countries across the globe, bringing home both incredible memories and a growing repertoire of culinary skills. Mark Hartman is Phoenix's chief sustainability officer, charged to support Phoenix’s continual efforts in becoming a global leader in sustainability. Most recently, in April 2016, Phoenix City Council approved long term Environmental Goals that included becoming a carbon-neutral city operating on 100% clean energy, zero waste, a 100-year supply of water, clean air, parks and transit in every neighborhood, and a vibrant local food system. Mark formerly worked at the City of Vancouver for eight years in sustainability, leading their carbon-neutral buildings strategy and their green building code as well as supporting Vancouver's ambition to become the greenest city in the world by 2020. C.R. Herro is Vice President of Environmental Affairs for Meritage Homes, a large-volume national home builder. CR leads their Energy and Innovation Program, which combines design, energy efficiency, water management, sustainability, and new technologies to establish a new standard in home building that provides better comfort and healthier air as well as less cost to own and operate.  In the last three years, Meritage has received numerous awards, including the EnergyValue Housing Award, Best Green Building Program Award, NAHB Builder of the Year and the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence Award, recognizing ongoing industry leadership.

David Heslam has been a national leader in the effort to develop and deploy energy labeling systems into the residential market. This work began in 2008 with early research in Oregon on energy labels and has continued through work with Earth Advantage in the implementation of energy labels in 16 states in all regions of the country.

Heslam gained insight into the need for energy labeling during the 15 years he spent designing, building, and remodeling homes in Portland, OR. His national award-winning company, Coho Construction Services Inc., became known as a local and national leader for adopting new technologies and striving for high levels of sustainability. He built a Zero Energy home in 2004 and a Zero Water home the year before.

Heslam’s work at Earth Advantage has included the development of software, research into the effectiveness of energy audits, research into the feasibility of labeling systems, implementation of programs to enable the valuation of green and efficient homes, plus education for designers, contractors, REALTORS, bankers and appraisers about high performance homes.

Cardice Howard brings 27 years of operations management experience as an insulation contractor in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas market along with her passion as an insulation Industry advocate to the RESNET team. Rebecca Hudson currently manages the ENERGY STAR Multifamily High Rise Program. She has been with the ENERGY STAR program for more than six years during which time she has also worked on Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, provided technical support for ENERGY STAR Certified Homes, and redeveloped the ENERGY STAR Home Advisor. Rebecca graduated from Yale University with a BS in Chemistry and Physics and from Columbia University with a MPA in Environmental Science and Policy. Nick Hurst is an Environmental Protection Specialist with the US EPA and the Program Manager of EPA’s Indoor airPLUS label for new homes. He has been involved in the construction industry for over 17 years as a self-employed remodeling contractor, project manager, green building consultant, and trainer.
Nick earned a Master’s in Technology concentrating in Building Science from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and he later served as Education and Outreach Director for the North Carolina Energy Efficiency Alliance at ASU’s Energy Center. Before coming to EPA, Nick also worked as a consultant at ICF in their Federal Energy Efficiency portfolio.

Marlene Imirzian, FAIA is the founding principal of Marlene Imirzian & Associates Architects with offices in Phoenix, Arizona and Escondido, CA. The firm is known for its design excellence, project performance, and as a leader in integration of sustainable design practices for building.  In 2016, the firm was selected as No. 18 of the Top 50 Architecture Firms in the U.S. by Architect Magazine, and repeatedly ranked in the Top 50 for sustainable design.   Her work has been published internationally and featured in the books “Desert Architecture”, and “1000x Architecture of the Americas”.  In addition to practicing architecture, Marlene is a faculty associate at The Design School, Arizona State University Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts architecture program.  She serves as a guest lecturer, a visiting critic at architectural schools, and is active in community improvement.

Her work has been awarded numerous design awards including local and regional design awards from the American Institute of Architects.  She is the recipient of the 2011 AIA Arizona Architects Medal for excellence in design, and the firm was awarded the 2015 AIA Arizona Firm of the Year.   Marlene elevated to Fellow of the AIA in 2013 and she received a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan.

Leo serves as the Primary Quality Assurance Delegate (QAD) for Energy Efficient Homes Midwest, Inc., one of the largest 3rd Party QA Providers within the RESNET Network, providing Quality Assurance services for HERS Raters across seven States. A second-generation employee of EEHM, Leo began his career following a different path in the United States Army, where he served as a Transportation Officer in the 101st Airborne Division, deploying his unit twice to  Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After the military, he worked as a Manufacturing Supervisor and then as an Account Manager for an international freight forwarder, where he earned his U.S. Customs Brokerage License.

He joined the family business after learning more about building science and energy efficiency and the exciting opportunities the industry holds. He has jumped with both feet forward into the industry, earning his RESNET QAD and IECC Plans/Examiner certifications. He currently serves as the Chair for the RESNET Emerging Leadership Council (ELC) and as a Task Group member on the Standards Integration Task Group within the Enclosures Subcommittee for SDC 300. Mark A. Johnson brings 30 years of management experience to his position as Executive Vice President and Director of Business Development for the International Code Council.  Mark is responsible for the management and oversight of product and business development, marketing, publications, sales, training and education, certification and testing, customer service and order fulfillment.  Additional duties include serving as the Council’s business liaison with organizations including ASTM International, American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the National Council of Structural Engineers Association (NCSEA), McGraw-Hill and Underwriters Laboratories Inc.  Previously, Mark served as President of ICC Evaluation Service, LLC, a subsidiary of the Code Council. Nathan Kahre is the High Performance and Healthy Home Manager at Thrive Home Builders. As part of the Quality Assurance Department at Thrive, Nathan is responsible for the implementation of constructible and cost-effective building science techniques. Mr. Kiker is Vice President, Marketing and Communications for the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association. In this capacity, Mr. Kiker develops the implements marketing and communications strategies to support fiberglass, rock and slag wool insulation products for NAIMA’s core audiences of residential and commercial builders, specifiers of institutional and industrial processes, engineers, architects and consumers.

Prior to joining NAIMA, Mr. Kiker was Communications Manager for the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), where he developed marketing strategy and managed media relations, social media outreach and other communications. Cy Kilbourn is co-founder and Vice President of Engineering at Ekotrope, a software company that makes HERS Rating software solutions and advanced residential energy analysis tools used by 1 in 6 new homes.  He spent time at Brown University and M.I.T. developing the patented algorithms behind Ekotrope software and led the development effort to establish Ekotrope as a RESNET accredited HERS Rating software.  Cy is also a member of the Board of Directors at RESNET, the leading standard setting organization in residential energy efficiency.  Throughout his career, he has worked with some of the largest HERS Rating companies and HERS Providers, utility efficiency programs, and national home builders to streamline processes, improve energy decisions, and make Ekotrope the most widely used HERS Rating software in the U.S.

Nate Kleist is a Purdue alumnus (Boiler Up!), HERS rater, IHCDA weatherization auditor, is ICC certified and specializes in energy codes and design.  He has spent the last seven years fine tuning his expertise in the home energy rating industry at Energy Diagnostics, a Midwest rating firm based in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.  Nate works with and trains builders, code officials, design professionals and contractors on energy codes and industry best practices.   He specializes in current IECC, and is involved in future development of energy codes.  Nate has worked under several different variations of the 2009, 2012 and 2015 IECC, giving him a unique and robust look at the state adoption process, along with the benefits and concerns of each code and corresponding amendments.

Neal Kruis is Vice President of Big Ladder Software in Denver, Colorado. He has a Ph.D. in architectural engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Neal is also the Director of Energy Modeling for RESNET and is working with the members of RESNET's Software Consistency Committee to enhance the consistency of HERS Index Scores calculated by accredited rating software.

Neal has been developing building performance simulation software since 2007 and is now a core developer on DOE's EnergyPlus software, and California's building energy code compliance software, CBECC-Res. Prior to joining Big Ladder, Neal worked as a residential buildings research engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Rachel LaMantia is a graduate of the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments in December of 2014. With a focus on Design and Energy Conservation, she graduated with a Master of Science in Architecture in 2016. Upon completion of her education, Rachel relocated to Colorado to fulfill her greatest passions of green building and the outdoor adventurer lifestyle. Before co-founding Pearl, Robin served for five years as the Managing Director of the National Home Performance Council, a national non-profit organization created to promote energy efficiency upgrades in U.S. homes. He co-authored a guide for the U.S. Department of Energy on effective policies that energy efficiency programs can use to promote residential energy efficiency. He also coordinated the National Efficiency Screening Project, a national initiative to improve the accuracy of the way utility commissions evaluate utility energy efficiency programs, and served as the chair of a committee that created national energy efficiency data standards. Robin previously served as the executive director of Hope Community, Inc., a non-profit based in East Harlem, New York that built and managed 1,200 units of affordable housing, including the first affordable LEED Silver multi-family buildings in New York City. In a previous life, he received a Ph.D. in Anthropology New School for Social Research, taught anthropology, and supported a team of Argentine forensic anthropologists.

Brennan is a building science researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL), where he manages all aspects of research projects in energy, ventilation and IAQ in new and existing homes. He is experienced in all aspects of buildings research, including research design, metering and sensors, statistical computing and programming, building simulation, and construction, inspection and testing of buildings. His recent work has focused on the development of smart ventilation controls and the performance of sealed and insulated attics.

Eric Makela, New Buildings Institute, is and Associate Director focused on codes and policy.   Eric’s building energy codes expertise spans 30 years, numerous states, and countries.  Makela served on the ICC IECC Code Development Committee for four cycles, and now represents the Northwest Energy Codes Group in developing IECC code change proposals.  In addition, he represented DOE on a team that developed a commercial code change proposal for the IECC that resulted in a 25% increase in efficiency over earlier codes and RESNET was successful in the adoption of the ERI approach. As a partner in Britt/Makela Group, Eric was involved in energy code implementation and evaluation efforts in states and major cities.  Makela served as a senior member of the U.S. DOE Building Energy Codes Program where his focus was on outreach and education to states and national stakeholders including the International Code Council, Building Code Assistance Project and the Regional Energy Efficiency Organizations.  Over his career Makela has trained in over 20 states to the building, design and enforcement industry in a variety of venues.  Makela was a recipient of the 2009 Jeffrey A. Johnson Award and the 2008 Canyon County Habitat for Humanity Volunteer of the Year. Chris McTaggart of Building Efficiency Resources (BER) is the QA/QC manager in support of the PHIUS+ Rater program. BER is a national third-party RESNET QA Provider working with independent rating companies throughout the United States. He recently completed the PHIUS Certified Passive House Consultant training program.

His experience in research, analysis and logic developed both through his professional experience and formal education at Michigan State University. His areas of interest are in energy modeling, energy efficiency programs, and Net-Zero energy building projects. Throughout his career as a HERS Rater, BPI Building Analyst, QAD and Trainer, Chris has served as QAD for three RESNET Rating Providers, performed over 300 HERS ratings, 100+ home performance assessments, and has mentored over 50 Provisional HERS Raters. Jim Meyers is Senior Associate, Director of Buildings Efficiency Program for the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP), where he works on building energy code advancements. Jim is responsible for conducting analysis, preparing case studies, evaluating new and emerging technologies for buildings and supporting the adoption of state-of-the-art building energy codes through education.

Jim has worked in multiple sectors of the energy field by starting his working career in the generation of power via fuel cells and more recently through energy efficiency of the built environment and new construction. Jim has also worked as a regional manager in the insulation industry, the technical director of an energy rating provider, program manager for a RESNET software, and in the software and defense industries.

Meyers is a CGP, a LEED Green Associate and former certified Energy Rater-Trainer-QA Designee. Noe Montalvo is the Southeast Operations Manager for Home Energy Group, a DPIS Builder Services Company. He was introduced to the residential energy efficiency industry in 2002 working as a data collector for a HERS Rater in Houston, Texas. Casey is Pearl’s Vice President of Quality Systems Department, which designs, monitors, and improves the third-party certification process. (GWS), a national award-winning energy, engineering, consultation and inspection firm with over 65,000 homes inspected/certified and Smart House Consultants of America, an Oklahoma consulting firm specializing in Residential/Commercial Forensic Building Diagnostics, cost to repair, with expert testimony in litigation for structure, roof, and building deficiencies. Glenn Pease is the Manager of Quality Assurance for EnergyLogic and serves as a trainer and mentor for HERS Raters across the country. He has a hand in teaching a variety of courses for RESNET HERS Raters that includes ENERGY STAR V3, SketchUp for Raters, Multifamily HERS Ratings, Tips and Tricks of REM Rate, and Tips and Tricks on the New Home Builder Tax Credit. RobPickett &Associates was established in 2001 following 26-years in housing production from both the site- and factory-built perspective, broadened by experience with five log home producers. Rob’s passion for the log home industry has been supported by the Log & Timber Homes Council (LTHC), Building Systems Councils, NAHB. He has been awarded on several occasions for his contributions to the Log Grading Committee, Technical Committee and Steering Committee. In 2003, he represented the LTHC as chairman of the ICC IS-Log Committee, created to develop 2007 ICC400 Standard on the Design & Construction of Log Structures. Dr. Claudette Hanks Reichel is Professor and Extension Housing Specialist with Louisiana State University AgCenter. She serves as Director of LaHouse Resource Center, a demonstration house exhibiting multiple high performance housing solutions and hub of Extension education programs to advance resource-efficient, durable and healthy housing for the southern climate and natural hazards.

Reichel has developed numerous educational outreach programs and resources relating to housing, including energy-efficiency, healthy homes, hurricane and flood resilience and others. Alice Rosenberg is a Senior Program Manager at Consortium for Energy Efficiency. CEE is the US and Canadian consortium of gas and electric efficiency program administrators, working together to accelerate the development and availability of energy efficient products and services for lasting public benefit. Alice oversees and leads activities of the Residential Whole House Committee, which covers efforts related to new construction, existing homes, and windows. Within new homes, she facilitates members to build consensus positions and identify roles where bi-national consistency can significantly impact the market. Robert Salcido is the Principal with Salcido Solutions, a consulting firm specializing in software design, building science, energy modeling and building energy analysis. Jonah Schein is the Technical Coordinator for Homes & Buildings at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense® Program. He has overseen the technical development and implementation of the WaterSense New Homes specification and certification system since their inception. He is also responsible for efforts to expand the WaterSesne program's reach in the multi-family and commercial sectors. Prior to joining EPA in 2008, Mr. Schein served as the Director of Outreach for Earth Day Network (EDN) where he was responsible for a number of initiatives to promote water efficiency through green building strategies in the United States and Middle East. Amy Schmidt joined the Dow in 2007 and transitioned to DuPont via the 2019 merger. 

She leads a team that is responsible for the company’s code development and adoption activities and serves as the team’s subject matter expert on energy codes.  She also leads energy code related legislative efforts at the state level.

Elliot Seibert is an environmental specialist with the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR Residential Branch, focusing on technical development and quality assurance. Mr. Seibert came to EPA with eight years of experience in the residential energy efficiency industry managing thousands of single family and multifamily HERS ratings, ENERGY STAR and green building certifications as a HERS Rater and HERS Quality Assurance Designee. Jefferson L. Sherman, MAI, AI-GRS, of Highland Heights, Ohio, is the 2020 president of the Appraisal Institute. He will serve as immediate past president in 2021, when he also will chair the National Nominating Committee. He serves this year as chair of the organization’s Executive Committee and chairs its policy-setting Board of Directors.

Sherman has served nationally on the Board of Directors (2000-02), Finance Committee (chair in 2018 and vice chair in 2002), Nominating Committee (2002), Education Committee (2010-13), International Relations Committee (2016) and Strategic Planning Committee (2017). He has served nearly continuously on the Region V committee since 1993, including many years as its parliamentarian. He also has served in chapter roles, including twice as an Appraisal Institute chapter president in Ohio, and has worked on two successful chapter merger teams. Sherman is principal of Sherman Valuation & Review, LLC, in Willoughby Hills, Ohio. He has taught courses for the Appraisal Institute since 1992 in 10 states and in Saudi Arabia. Sherman has been a real estate professional for 45 years, including as a broker in Colorado and then in Michigan. His practice concentrates on the eminent domain field with emphasis on litigation review. He originally opened his original appraisal business, Johnson and Sherman, Inc., in Willoughby, Ohio, in 1990 with his partner, Marilyn Johnson, who is now retired.  The firm changed to Sherman-Andrzejczyk Group, Inc. in 2000 transitioning to Sherman Valuation & Review in 2019. Clint Shireman is a training manager for Knauf Insulation. He works with builders and installers nationwide, teaching building science, and spreading best practices. He is heavily involved with High Performance Insulation Professionals, an insulation trade group that’s focused on improving the quality of residential insulation work. Clint is also a member of RESNET’s Emerging Leadership Council, and EEBA’s Next Generation Development Committee, focusing on how to recruit the next generation of skilled tradespeople into sustainable construction.

Dominic Sims, CBO, was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Code Council in 2012. As CEO, Sims is responsible for the overall activities and financial performance of the association, including its six subsidiaries.

During his 15-year tenure, Sims has also served the Code Council as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President. He has served on and/or chaired numerous national Committees and Task Forces across a span of topics, including code development, government affairs, and resiliency.

Prior to his work with the Code Council, Sims served as the CEO of the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI) and guided its consolidation between regional code organizations that formed the Code Council in 2003. Sims has served on the boards of SBCCI, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) and several other professional associations. Before joining SBCCI, he was Executive Director of the Palm Beach County, Florida Planning, Zoning and Building Department, where he had responsibility for comprehensive development, construction, and licensing and compliance activities for a high-growth region in the United States.

Having worked in the building safety field since 1983, Sims has held numerous positions, both elected and appointed at the federal, state and local levels including the White House Panel on Seismic Safety, The Society for Standards Professionals (SES) Standards Committee and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Policy Committee.

His experience includes serving as a Councilman/Vice Mayor for the town of Jupiter, Florida and Vice Chairman of the Governor’s Building Code Study Commission –which helped form his views on the importance of being active in public policy discussions concerning building safety.

Bill has designed, marketed and sold a wide array of test and measurement products in the last twenty-five years. Bill was design-engineering manager at Bacharach, Inc. for 10 years and HVAC Product Marketing Manager at Testo, Inc. for 10 years. Since 2009, he has managed and is now President, CEO and majority owner of TruTech Tools, LTD. He and his team have built an Inc. 5000 award winning test instrument web store (#3962 in 2016,  #4509 in 2018 & #4644 in 2019). TruTech’s philosophy is to start from the “why” of the customer’s tasks and provide learning materials to help them perform with best practices.

He regularly teaches and writes on technically complex topics to a wide range of audiences on the applications of testing and measurement instrumentation in building science, healthy homes, Indoor Air Quality, weatherization, and HVACR. 

Bill was awarded a 10,000 Small Business Scholarship in 2016 to boost his entrepreneurial skills. He has worked on BPI, RESNET, GAMA, AHRI, OMA, RSES, NATE, and ACCA Technical Committees, and holds three US patents in instrumentation design and several patent applications. He also consults in instrumentation design, development and application along with expert witness work on HVAC equipment, heat exchanger, carbon monoxide and related issues as well as technical education.

Randy began his career as a HERS Rater in 2009 and has been the Owner/Operator of Home Efficiency Solutions LLC since then.  He has had a passion for energy efficiency for most of his life  and was able to bring it to fruition in becoming a HERS Rater.  He has conducted blower door and duct leakage training in the pre-fab housing and HVAC industries.  He has been the event speaker at real estate and home builders associations in the eastern panhandle of WV.  He enjoys discussing and implementing building science practices with home builders, both new and old.
He lives in Martinsburg, WV and conducts HERS Ratings, duct leakage, blower door and code compliance testing in PA, MD, WV and VA.  He became the first certified Rater in WV in 2009.
Since business has increased over the past year, he also employs a veteran part time, who conducts duct leakage testing.

Frank is a RESNET Quality Assurance Designee, LEEP AP Homes + BD&C, LEED for Homes Green Rater, PHIUS+ CPHC & Rater, BPI multi-specialty Professional, and an ACCA Certified Residential HVAC System Designer. He studied engineering at Johns Hopkins University, and brings practical knowledge of the construction industry to the rating and green design process from the decade he spent working for a commercial/residential general contractor. At EAM Frank annually supervises the rating and inspection of thousands of homes for various EEP, green construction, and energy code programs. For the past six years he has served on the Board of Directors of the Northeast HERS Alliance, the last two as president of the organization whose mission is to foster, unify, and promote HERS programs across the Northeast through a variety of training and advocacy initiatives.

Dan Ticona manages affordable lending strategy and policy within Freddie Mac’s Single-Family division. He is responsible for the design and execution of Single-Family activities related to affordable housing preservation under Freddie Mac’s Duty to Serve plan, which focuses on addressing the needs of underserved markets with expanded access to manufactured housing, rural housing and affordable housing preservation. Clayton Traylor joined the LBA staff following five years with Centex Homes where he served as Director of Government & Industry Relations and Sustainability Officer.  In this capacity, Clayton was responsible for the companies’ political, legislative and regulatory activity at the federal, state and local level.  Clayton also spearheaded Centex’s energy efficiency initiatives.

Before joining Centex, Clayton was a Senior Staff Vice President at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) responsible for construction codes, land use and state and local government relations.

Kohta Ueno is a senior associate at Building Science Corporation, a building science consulting and architecture firm located in Westford, Massachusetts.  His responsibilities at Building Science Corporation include forensic field investigations, energy and hygrothermal modeling, building science research, and field testing.  He has been with BSC since 1998, and completed his Masters degree with the Building Engineering Group under John Straube at the University of Waterloo in 2007.  He is also conveniently sized to fit into attics and crawl spaces, which is markedly useful in this field.

Jason is the Energy Code Program Manager for SPEER. He has over 15 years combined experience in building construction and inspection. Jason was the Chief Building Official for the City of Granbury for four years and serves on the NCTCOG Energy and Green Advisory Board. He maintains nine (9) ICC certifications and is a Certified Building Official. Jason has a MBA from Texas Tech University.

Mr. Vieira has over 20 years of experience in hot, humid climate buildings research. He has led research efforts in residential auditing and field evaluation projects, survey and statistical work, and computer simulation and analysis. Rob has directed FSEC’s residential EnergyGauge software development teams. EnergyGauge is used for calculating code compliance and conducting energy and economic analysis. He has presented over 40 workshops and seminars on sustainable development and energy-efficient construction to developers, builders, designers and others in the energy & environmental & development fields. Rob has written papers for diverse audiences, e.g., Transportation Quarterly, Florida Planning, and ASHRAE Transactions, and was the primary author of one book, Energy-Efficient Florida Home Building. Rob served as the chair for the organizing committee of the 501C3 Florida Green Building Coalition and currently sits on the board of directors. The Coalition brings together people from industry and environmental concerns to create incentives and voluntary standards for designating green homes, green land developments, green commercial buildings and green cities and counties. Rob has a B.A. in Physics, an M.S. in Applied Solar Energy and an MBA.

Gayathri Vijayakumar is a Principal Mechanical Engineer at Steven Winter Associates, Inc., a RESNET Accredited Rating Quality Assurance Provider. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Engineering Science and from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a MS in Mechanical Engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Energy Policy and Management. Gayathri, an ASHRAE-certified Building Energy Modeling Professional and HERS Rater, currently provides technical support to the EPA's ENERGY STAR Multifamily High Rise program and has over 14 years of experience supporting ENERGY STAR certification of units in multifamily buildings. She currently is a member of the ASHRAE 62.2 Multifamily working group, ASHRAE Residential Buildings Committee, and Chair of RESNET’s Standards Development Committee, SDC300.

Dr. Iain Walker is a scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has more than 30 years of experience as a building scientist, conducting research on energy retrofits, zero energy homes and IAQ issues in homes. He is the current chair of the US national residential ventilation standard (ASHRAE 62.2) and serves on standards and technical committees for ASHRAE, ASTM and other national and international standards and professional organizations. He is an ASHRAE Fellow, leads the US DOE national efforts on IAQ in homes and international efforts with the IEA's Air Infiltration and Ventilation Center.

Xavier began his career in the energy efficiency business in 2009. He is an energy efficiency expert having completed thousands of residential retrofits, audits, and inspections.  A seasoned building science trainer with experience in project management and implementation. His goal is to communicate market conditions, best practices, and basic energy efficiency industry concepts for the benefit of peers, clients, students, and stakeholders.

Matt Waring is the son of a Richmond, VA based Single Family contractor and has worked in the construction industry since he took his first job with a mason in high school. After graduating from Hampden-Sydney College in 2006, he has worked as a superintendent on single family and multifamily construction projects in both Virginia and South Carolina. Matt has been a Certified Home Energy Rater since 2011 when he initially joined the Viridiant team as Technical Advisor. From there, Matt worked into a Project Management role focusing on a range of Multifamily Low-Income Housing and Market Rate projects seeking certification primarily through the EarthCraft Multifamily program. He eventually took over the Multifamily department in 2016. After a brief hiatus, again as a superintendent, Matt rejoined Viridiant as part of the Technical Management team in 2019 and has been working with Viridiant’s in-house technical advisors and a broad array of external clients, helping teams successfully achieve their sustainability goals.

Management Kevin spent ten years building custom home with a custom home building
company. While there he developed his passion for high performance home building and
implementing building science best practices into construction methodology. As a HERS Rater

healthier homes by guiding clients through the learning curve associated with high-performance home building with education, collaboration, and third-party inspection.

Dr. Weston leads building science and construction technology research for DuPont Performance Building Solutions.  She has developed and introduced to market many new products and is an inventor of four U.S. patents.

Dr. Weston earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the California Institute of Technology. 

She joined DuPont in 1985 at the Fibers Pioneering Research Laboratory (PRL) at the Experimental Station.  After that she worked at for the Flooring Systems Business (Wilmington, Waynesboro, VA and Dalton, GA).  In 1995, she transferred to Richmond, VA and began working for Tyvek® in the construction segment market and product development.  

Dr. Weston is actively involved with many professional organizations and chairs technical and standard development committees.  She is a member of the executive committee of the ASTM Committee on the Performance of Buildings and chairs the Sub-Committee on Air Leakage and Ventilation. At ASHRAE, she is the immediate-past-Chair of the Residential Buildings Committee and immediate past-Chair of the Standard for Energy Efficient Design of New Low-Rise Residential Buildings (90.2) and a past chair of the Technical Committee on Building Materials and Building Envelope Performance.  Dr. Weston is active in the ICC code development process. She is also active in publishing technical papers and presenting at construction industry and building science conferences.

She has received industry honors including most recently, in April receiving the E. George Stern Award of Excellence from the ASTM Committee E06 Performance of Buildings which is awarded for continuous and outstanding contributions to the work of Committee E06, standardization development and the building community, evidenced by the awardees leadership qualities, such as publications, presentations, activities promoting ASTM E06 standards, industry recognition or other activities that have greatly advanced the performance or preservation of buildings.

As the Building Science Manager for TRC, Dan has completely immersed in the discussion of what is required to create High Performance Buildings and the technologies that operate within them. Dan has 25 years of experience working directly for a contractor; performing energy audits and Ratings, weatherization repairs, consulting and analysis for private clients in both New Construction and the existing buildings market. After 15 years working directly in the field, Dan transitioned to the consulting side of the business, working with program implementation companies, finding a home with TRC. Dan currently provides Building Science consultation, technical management, market channel development, and training and presentation services for a variety of programs across the country.
