Proposed Addendum 60 Revises Chapter 2 of the MINHERS to clarify the requirements for combustion safety field training. In the past, RESNET HERS Rater training included two hands-on field ratings. This hands-on, field portion of full training activities has since been shifted to the Rating QA Providers to perform as they oversee Probationary HERS Ratings. Rating QA Providers are also currently responsible for the hands-on CAZ training for RFIs. At this time, the only hands-on requirement during HERS Rater training is two hours of in-field CAZ training. This places an undue burden on Trainees as well as Training Providers since the only hands-on requirement for HERS Rater training requires trainees to potentially travel and/or purchase expensive equipment for a two-hour hands-on course. Since the QA Providers are tasked with RFI CAZ training and hands-on evaluation, they already have the equipment and field training and evaluation in place. It makes sense that they also incorporate HERS Rater CAZ training and hands-on evaluation. This addendum is made to clarify HERS Rater certification requirements with regards to the hands-on CAZ portion of those requirements.
