D.R. Horton, the largest homebuilder in the U.S., has released its 2024 Sustainability Report.
Erin K. Bordelon, the builder’s National Sustainability Director, commented that, “This year’s report pays tribute to our late founder, Don Horton, and highlights the meaningful progress our teams are making in advancing affordability, positively impacting our communities, and maintaining a disciplined focus on environmental stewardship.”
The report states,” To measure and improve the energy efficiency in our homes, many of our divisions participate in energy efficiency programs or rating systems, including the Home Energy Rating System (HERS), ENERGY STAR, and other green building standards that vary based upon geography and market”.
In 2024, D.R. Horton had an average HERS Index score of 56. This was a four-point drop from the average score in 2023.

The report also notes that, “50,662 of the homes closed by our homebuilding operations in fiscal 2024, or approximately 56%, received a HERS Index Score, which is an increase from 30,642, or 37%, of homes closed in fiscal 2023 that received a score.”

D.R. Horton’s Executive Chairman David V. Auld commented:
“We have continued to focus on driving affordability, while navigating the challenges of the housing market and broader economy to further expand the number of communities we serve, strengthen the Horton Family, and make progress toward more company milestones.”
