The Home Builders Association of Lexington received national recognition from the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) and Insulate America for the leadership role it has played in promoting the building of energy efficient homes in the Lexington housing market. The award was presented by Steve Baden, RESNET Executive Director at the Midwest Regional Residential Energy Conference in Lexington, Kentucky. RESNET Executive Director Steve Baden presenting national award to Todd Johnson, Executive Director; Sandy Beck, Account Executive and Rob Hundley, Board President of the Home Builders Association of Lexington The association was the first in the Nation to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with RESNET vowing to encourage 100% of its builder members to get all their homes rated using the HERS Index. The HERS Index is the industry standard for the rating of the energy performance of a home in much the same way as a MPG sticker does for cars, The home builders association staged a very successful Press Conference at the Association’s “Home of Excellence” which was utilized to showcase its’ energy efficiency using the HERS Index rating and label. We then began aggressively promoting the Energy Smart Builder program to our members asking them to sign their own MOU with RESNET agreeing to rate and label all of their homes. The association developed their own HBA Lexington specific Energy Smart Builder Logo designed with approval from RESNET, for use by their Energy Smart Builders. The results of the effort were immediate. We had twelve Builders rush their Energy Smart Builder MOU’s to RESNET the same day it was announced. Interest by builders has been overwhelmingly positive and new MOU’s are coming in. The recognition was a part of a national competitive award program, “The Best Idea”. The award is to recognize the most outstanding programs to promote the construction of high energy performance homes.
