. On August 25, 2025, Meritage Homes, the fifth-largest homebuilder in the U.S., released its 2024 Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility Report. The report stated that, “we design and build homes both to meet the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR® standards and that are third-party rated for energy efficiency under the RESNET HERS index program.” The report used the RESNET HERS Index scores as a sustainable construction metric. In 2024, Meritage Homes had an average HERS Index score of 49. This was a three-point drop from the average score in 2023.
