RESNET Adopts Revised Standard for Gas Leakage Testing

Mar 18, 2013

RESNET has adopted significant enhancements to its gas leakage testing standard (Chapter 8 of the RESNET Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating Standard).

For over a year the RESNET Technical Committee worked on improving the clarity and repeatability of combustion safety testing and to bring testing more in line with other industry standards.

The effort was led by Iain Walker of the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory.  The draft revision underwent a RESNET consensus public review and comment process.  The RESNET Technical Committee considered and documented every comment submitted.  The RESNET Board of Directors adopted the standard on March 15, 2013.

The following are the major changes in the revised RESNET gas leakage testing standard:

  • Defined equipment needed for gas leakage testing more clearly,
  • Defined the equipment needed for testing ambient air for carbon monoxide (CO) more clearly,
  • Defined the equipment used for testing CO in the flue of combustion appliances more clearly,
  • Clarified testing procedures for carbon monoxide testing.

The revised standard goes into effect on April 15, 2013.
