RESNET/AI Collaborate To Educate Appraisers on HERS® and Appraisal Portal

Oct 4, 2019

There is an exciting opportunity for real estate appraisal professionals to take into account the HERS® Index Score in the appraisal of a home. For the past three years, RESNET and the Appraisal Institute (AI) have been cooperatively developing tools that make it easier for appraisers to find HERS® Rated homes in their market.

AI and RESNET have partnered to provide appraisers with real-time access to RESNET’s National Registry of HERS® Rated Homes through the RESNET Online Appraisal Portal. The portal allows AI professionals and trained green appraisers to access important information about the energy efficiency of more than 2.5 million HERS® rated homes in the US. There is no cost for the appraiser to access the portal.

AI and RESNET have now entered into a collaboration to educate appraisers and other real estate professionals on the HERS® Index and the RESNET Online Appraisal Portal. The objective of the collaboration is to raise appraisers’ awareness that the HERS® Index is the key to unlocking the value of green homes, and the power of the RESNET Online Appraisal Portal in valuing the energy performance of homes.

AI and RESNET staff have developed a one-year marketing plan to meet the AI/RESNET objective. Activities to be conducted for the next 12 months under the collaborative include:

• Display ads on AI web site’s home and member benefit’s pages
• Monthly full-page display ads in the AI publications
• Presence at the AI, National Association of REALTORS, Appraisal Summit, Valuation trade shows, and conferences
• Ongoing social media posts by AI to residential appraiser members
• Targeted direct e-mails by AI to members to top 12 states with HERS® Rated homes
• Posts on AI blog
• Educational workshops on the benefits of the HERS® Index Score and the RESNET Appraisal Portal in the top markets of HERS® Rated homes

Education materials aimed at educating appraisers on the HERS® Index and the RESNET Appraisal Portal have been developed. They include:
