Shelby Gatlin has been selected by the RESNET Board of Directors to serve as the organization’s new Executive Director. Ms. Gatlin has a rich history with home energy ratings. She brings over a decade of leadership in administering California’s home energy rating programs and over 20 years of advocacy in natural resource conservation. She also brings a strong legal foundation, having worked as a Natural Resources Attorney. “My experience is rooted in California’s energy code, where third-party home energy inspections are not optional, but required,” said Gatlin. “This regulatory environment has given me a front-row seat to RESNET’s national influence—as a voluntary standard that has earned widespread adoption and credibility. That success speaks volumes about the organization’s strength and staying power.” “I am passionate about RESNET’s mission and committed to engaging stakeholders while honoring the diverse perspectives of our members. I believe in building a shared vision that inspires alignment—and one that keeps us focused on moving RESNET forward.” RESNET Board President John Hensley noted Ms. Gatlin’s experience, “Shelby brings a powerful combination of policy insight, program execution, and industry relationships that align with RESNET’s mission and growth trajectory. She will build upon the success and legacy of Steve Baden while guiding RESNET and the HERS® industry to meet new challenges and opportunities ahead.” Outgoing Executive Director Steve Baden, who has led RESNET since its founding, added, “I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Shelby over the years—she brings intelligence, experience, and tenacity to the role. I have full confidence that she will lead RESNET in achieving the Board’s goal of reaching one million ratings annually by the end of 2028.” Ms. Gatlin will take over the RESNET helm on January 1, 2026.
