Don Walker Guaranteed Watt Saver (GWS) Dodd Wood Wood Insulating Co Energy code verification is fast becoming a business development opportunity for HERS® Raters. Increasingly state and municipal code jurisdictions are recognizing HERS® Raters as the gold standard for verification compliance to the energy code. Even if a code jurisdiction has not yet adopted the Energy Rating Index compliance option, there is still a greater opportunity for HERS® Raters to conduct compliance inspections as part of the performance compliance option to the code. Recent versions of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) require blower door and duct leakage testing, a natural fit for HERS® Raters. In order to boost their credibility to code officials for energy code performance verification, it is important for HERS® Raters to also become certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as energy code inspectors. Developed by the International Code Council (ICC), the ICC’s Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner Certification demonstrates that a certified RESNET HERS® Rater has the necessary knowledge of energy code provisions. In addition, through its partnership with RESNET, ICC is offering a special discount package for HERS® Raters for becoming a member of the ICC. This package includes a number of ICC benefits including a voucher for the ICC Certification Examination. Becoming a member of ICC also provides the rating industry a voice in future code development. RESNET urges certified HERS® Raters to take advantage of this opportunity. For more information on how to become a member of ICC and the special ICC/RESNET benefit package to HERS® Raters go to ICC/RESNET Member Value Package.
