RESNET Designates Green Built North Carolina as a RESNET Energy Smart Program

RESNET has designated Green Built North Carolina as a RESNET Energy Smart Program.  The program has been designated as an Energy Smart program because it requires that all homes participating in the program be energy rated.

Green Built North Carolina is a voluntary green building program administered by the Western North Carolina Green Building Council  This program offers a certificate for meeting green building guideline as well as yard signs electrical panel decals, technical and marketing assistance, design reviews, workshops and field consultation services that enable builders to increase their green building expertise, gain market share of homebuyers interested in high building performance techniques and boost companies profitability.  With over 600 homes certified, research shows that Green Built North Carolina certified Homes sell faster, hold their value longer, save energy, lower utility bills and protect the environment.  Multiple levels of certification are available (Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum) ensuring that the program is available to all budgets and experience levels.  Guidelines include 11 pre-requisites plus minimum point requirements for site, water, energy and materials.  The program requires homes are a minimum of 15% more energy efficient than code and receive a HERS® lndex Score of 85 or lower.  Homes receive extra credit point towards certification per 2 point reduction in the HERS® Index Score.  For more information on the program go to Green Built North Carolina

In order to be designated as a RESNET Energy Smart Program a program must require that a builder has all of the homes participating in the program are energy rated and that the builder markets the homes’ HERS® Index Score.  Besides Green Built North Carolina, Louisville Gas & Electric, Blue Grass Energy, Kentucky Utility and ecoHome have been designated as RESNET Energy Smart Programs.  If you have a program that you would like to be considered for designation as a RESNET Energy Smart Program e-mail Steve Baden at sbaden@resnet.us
