In the first full year of its launch, 2,293 homes have received RESNET HERSH2O® water efficiency ratings. The average HERSH2O® score was 61. This means that the homes that were water efficiency rated were 39% more efficient than the reference home which equates to the water efficiency of a home constructed in 2006. RESNET’s water efficiency rating program is having direct benefits. It is calculated that over 129 million gallons of water are annually saved by the homes that were HERSH2O® rated compared to the reference home. HERSH2O® is a whole house water efficiency rating system that produces a water efficiency index score in the same fashion as the HERS® Index. The HERSH2O® rating is produced by a certified RESNET HERS® Rater that has received special training and certification. The water efficiency rating is designed to take place at the same time a home is HERS® rated. RESNET is a Home Certification Organization for the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program and the program sets a target score for HERSH2O® ratings.
