Currently the ANSI/RESNET/ICC Standard 301 refers to the ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2013 for calculating the total air exchange rate for homes. A number of HERS® Raters, home builders and Joseph Lstiburek have expressed concern that the current standard provides excess ventilation The RESNET Standard Committee 300 has approved submitting the proposed amendment BSR/RESNET/ICC 301-2014 Addendum C-201X, PDS-01, Whole-House Mechanical Ventilation to the RESNET consensus standard amendment public review and comment process. The proposed amendment amends Standard ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301-2014 to: Replace equation for total air exchange rate (infiltration plus fan forced) with equation for fan forced rate only. Add definitions related to the use of the equation, Remove reference to ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2013 and replace with: Combined infiltration and ventilation may not be greater than nL * wsf * 1.2 in summer and nL * wsf * 1.6 in winter. Replace standards references to the RESNET Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating System with references to Standard ANSI/RESNET/ICC 380-2016 in related sections. RESNET has released for public review and comment the proposed substantive changes to RESNET’s instruction, assessment and certification standard.
