On January 1, 2016 the State of Illinois joined the ranks of states that have adopted the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Included with the adoption is the Energy Rating Index compliance option (R406). The required Energy Rating Index scores in Illinois that must be met are: Climate Zone 4 54 or lower Climate Zone 5 55 or lower The Energy Rating Index scores required in the state are contained in Section R406 of the 2015 IECC. The new state energy code went into effect on January 1, 2016. The average HERS® Index Score of homes rated in the state was 59. RESNET and the International Code Council (ICC) recently conducted a webinar on the Energy Rating Index Option to the 2015 IECC and the opportunities for certified RESNET HERS® Raters to be ICC certified Energy Code Inspectors.
