With the swearing in of President Joe Biden, it is appropriate to review policy that the Biden-Harris campaign advocated for on clean energy during the campaign. During the election, the Biden-Harris campaign adopted a plan called “The Biden Plan to Build a Modern, Sustainable Infrastructure and an Equitable Clean Energy Future”. The plan had a heavy emphasis on increasing the energy efficient of the building sector. The key goal of the plan for buildings was “cutting the carbon footprint of our national building stock in half by 2036.” Planks of the plan for buildings includes: • Weatherizing 2 million homes over 4 years • Establishing a national building performance standard for existing buildings nationwide • New funding mechanisms for states, cities and tribes to adopt strict building energy codes • Legislation to set a new net-zero emissions standard for all new commercial buildings by 2030 • Construction of 1.5 million new energy efficient housing units for low income families To view the Biden-Harris plan click on The Biden Plan to Build a Modern, Sustainable Infrastructure and an Equitable Clean Energy Future.
