Ensuring the Practical Knowledge of Home Energy Raters New RESNET Simulation Based HERS® Rater Practical Test

Nov 7, 2013

The demand for home energy ratings is growing.  More and more code jurisdictions are adopting a HERS® Index Score as a compliance option to their energy codes.  With this growth there is a corresponding requirement that RESNET steps up its game on ensuring consistency and accuracy of ratings.

It is therefore paramount that RESNET develop a defensible practical testing procedure for HERS® raters. RESNET is currently developing a three dimensional computer desktop simulation that is consistent, defensible, scalable and cost‐effective practical examination that requires HERS® Rater candidates to demonstrate the level of competency outlined in its standards. The exam will allow the evaluation of different construction methods and multiple regional climatic conditions. Once developed, all new and existing raters will have to pass the simulation based test.

The 2014 RESNET Building Performance Conference offers a great opportunity to learn how the new test will operate and the status of the development of the test.

The 2014 RESNET Conference is a not-to-miss event for the rating industry.  For more information go to 2014 RESNET Power of Performance Conference
