Homebuilders Association of Lexington Becomes First Homebuilder Association to Make the RESNET HERS® Index Commitment

May 9, 2012

RESNET has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Homebuilders Association of Lexington. The MOU is the first with a homebuilders association in the nation.

In the MOU the Kentucky builder association commits all of their builder members to have all of their homes energy rated and market their homes’ HERS® Index Score. The Kentucky homebuilder associations commits to having all homes individually inspected and tested. The association’s members do not support the sampling of ratings.

The Home Builders Association of Lexington is a 1,000+ member trade association, formed in 1952, which serves the housing and residential construction industry in Lexington and surrounding counties.  The homebuilder association has 122 builder members. This is an exciting development for the rating industry and RESNET. It is planned that this agreement with the Home Builders Association of Lexington will be a model for future agreements with other homebuilder associations that are interested in showing consumers the value of a new home verses existing homes and, by labeling every new home, differentiate energy efficient new homes from existing homes.
