If you are a building code official or energy policy professional, or work in code administration, you are already aware that new code requirements, including requirements for the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)will take effect Jan. 1.

ICC may be your only local source in Illinois for this specialized training — register now.

2015 IECC Energy Index (ERI) Compliance

A new option for demonstrating energy code compliance is the Energy Rating Index (ERI, R406), which was developed to empower builders to demonstrate compliance using a metric modeled on the popular RESNET Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index. Section R406 is a new compliance option in the 2015 IECC. It will be effective in Illinois in January. The popular RESNET HERS® Index is now an energy code compliance option.

Now is a critical time for building code officials and energy policy professionals to learn about the technical requirements of R406, the principles used by energy raters to rate a home to produce an ERI score and the RESNET HERS® Index.

Instructor Chris McTaggart, executive director of the Midwest Home Performance Association (MHPA), has served as the quality assurance designee for three RESNET rating providers and performed hundreds of HERS® ratings.

After attending this one-day seminar you will be better able to:

  • Explain the ERI compliance option of the International Energy Conservation Code
  • Compare the requirements of the ERI option, Prescriptive, and Performance (R405) paths of code compliance
  • Describe the structure of the RESNET HERS® index
  • Distinguish the roles of RESNET, Quality Assurance Providers and certified raters/field inspectors
  • Explain the site inspection and performance testing requirements associated with energy ratings
  • Explain the role of quality assurance in the RESNET HERS® index
  • Describe the energy modeling inputs used to generate ERI scores
  • Identify the features of ERI compliance reports
