Why Energy Smart Builders Can Not Afford to Miss the 2018 RESNET Building Performance Conference

Jan 12, 2018

The annual RESNET Building Performance Conference is a not-to-miss event for the building and rating industries.  In 2018, there are even more reasons why you need to attend the conference.

Significant opportunities have emerged that can dramatically affect builders. These opportunities include:

  • Growth in the demand for HERS® Ratings – Currently over 22% of all new homes are HERS® rated.  In 2017, the milestone of over 2 million homes that were HERS® rated was passed. It took 20 years to achieve the first million homes HERS® rated and less than five years to achieve the second million.
  • Recognition of HERS® Ratings in a home’s appraisal – RESNET has entered into a partnership with the Appraisal Institute to educate and to provide the needed tools to residential real estate appraisers on valuing the energy performance of a home documented by a HERS® Rating.
  • Builders having greater flexibility to demonstrate compliance to energy codes – The 2015 and 2018 International Energy Conservation Codes provide a new option, the Energy Rating Index to meeting the code. In addition, over 300 local and state code jurisdictions recognize a HERS® Rating as an energy code compliance option. HERS® and the Energy Rating Index options offers builders the greatest flexibility in meeting the energy code.
  • Creation of a new RESNET water efficiency rating system – Across the nation water is becoming a critical issue.  Water and sewer costs are rising faster than energy costs. RESNET is developing a HERSH2O® water efficiency rating system that will recognize a home’s water performance in the same manner as HERS® does for energy performance.
  • RESNET enhancing the consistency of HERS® Index Scores – RESNET has undertaken a major commitment to enhance the consistency of HERS® Index Scores through stepped up quality assurance of HERS® Raters, and enhanced consistency of the calculation of HERS® Index Scores by HERS® software programs.

The 2018 RESNET Conference will focus on these dynamic trends.

The 2018 RESNET Conference will take place in sunny Orlando, Florida on February 26 – 28, 2018.

There will be a series of break-out conference sessions that will address the important topics of:

  • The Role of HERS® Raters and the HERS® Index in Code Compliance
  • Enhancing the National Consistency of HERS® Index Scores

  • Mainstreaming the HERS® Index in the Housing Market

The 2018 RESNET Building Performance Conference will provide the only opportunity to learn first-hand about these trends and position your business to take advantage of this rising tide.
